Economy – Modi Calls for United Action to Sustain India Growth
Economy – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called on state governments to work together in ensuring that India’s growth momentum remains intact despite emerging global challenges. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, he stressed that handling the current international situation requires a shared sense of responsibility across all levels of governance.

Call for Cooperative Federal Effort
Speaking about the evolving situation in West Asia, the Prime Minister highlighted that the coming period could test India’s resilience. He urged states to actively coordinate with the Centre, noting that collaboration would be critical in navigating uncertainties. According to him, the situation presents both a challenge and an opportunity for governments to demonstrate effective leadership.
He underlined that maintaining economic progress is not solely the responsibility of the central government, but a collective duty that requires equal participation from states.
Focus on Vulnerable Sections
The Prime Minister drew attention to the disproportionate impact crises often have on economically weaker groups. He emphasized the need for timely distribution of benefits under welfare schemes, particularly the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, to support those most affected.
He also advised state administrations to take proactive steps to address the concerns of migrant workers. Establishing dedicated monitoring systems, he said, would help ensure that emerging issues are identified and resolved quickly.
Warning Against Market Malpractices
Raising concerns over potential disruptions in supply chains, the Prime Minister urged states to remain vigilant against black marketing and hoarding. He stressed that strict and prompt action should be taken wherever such practices are detected, as they can worsen the impact of crises on ordinary citizens.
Maintaining transparency and ensuring the availability of essential commodities were described as key priorities during uncertain times.
Emphasis on ‘Team India’ Approach
Reiterating the importance of unity, the Prime Minister called for a coordinated approach under the spirit of “Team India.” He said that sustained economic growth would depend on swift reforms and decisive policy implementation by both central and state governments.
He described the present moment as a significant test, where cooperative governance could play a decisive role in shaping outcomes.
Lessons from the Pandemic
Reflecting on India’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister pointed out that cooperation between the Centre and states had delivered effective results. Despite political differences, coordinated efforts ensured smooth testing, vaccination drives, and the supply of essential goods.
He suggested that the same model of cooperation should guide the country’s response to current global developments.
Adapting to an Evolving Crisis
The Prime Minister noted that the present crisis differs from past challenges, requiring new strategies and approaches. He emphasized the importance of patience, discipline, and careful decision-making as the situation continues to evolve rapidly.
He also highlighted the unpredictable nature of ongoing global conflicts, which could influence economic and social conditions over an extended period.
Assurance of Government Preparedness
Addressing public concerns, the Prime Minister assured citizens that the government remains alert and is actively working on strategies to manage potential impacts. He reiterated that public welfare remains the top priority and that all necessary steps are being taken with seriousness and foresight.
He also encouraged citizens to remain prepared for possible challenges ahead, acknowledging that the effects of the current global situation may be long-lasting.
