DelhiGovernment – One Year of Welfare Initiatives and Metro Expansion Highlight Progress

DelhiGovernment – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said the state government has been working in a mission-driven manner over the past year, introducing several welfare programmes aimed at improving the lives of economically weaker sections and workers in the national capital. Her remarks came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two new metro corridors in Delhi, a move the Chief Minister said will significantly improve daily commuting, particularly for women.

Government Marks One Year in Office

Speaking about the completion of one year of the current administration, Gupta said the government has focused on delivering services with commitment and transparency. According to her, the administration has followed the principles of integrity and consistent effort in public service while implementing policies designed to benefit citizens across different sections of society.

She noted that several priority areas have guided the government’s work over the past twelve months. Among them are expanding healthcare coverage under Ayushman Bharat, accelerating efforts to clean the Yamuna River, and tackling the long-standing issue of landfill sites that have grown into massive waste mounds in the city.

Gupta said these issues are being addressed through targeted action plans, with government departments working in coordination to deliver measurable results.

Affordable Meals Through Atal Canteens

Highlighting welfare initiatives for low-income residents, the Chief Minister said the government has established 70 Atal Canteens across the city. These community kitchens provide meals at affordable prices for people who struggle to access regular nutritious food.

According to Gupta, nearly 70,000 individuals are benefiting from the scheme every day. The canteens serve labourers, daily wage workers, and people from economically weaker households.

She added that the initiative reflects the broader development philosophy inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” which aims to ensure inclusive growth and equal opportunities for all sections of society.

Infrastructure Plans to Address Civic Issues

The Chief Minister also outlined steps being taken to deal with long-standing urban challenges such as pollution and waterlogging. She said the Delhi government is working closely with the central government to find long-term solutions to these issues.

One of the major developments in this direction is the preparation of a new drainage master plan for the city. Gupta said this is the first such plan prepared in nearly five decades and is expected to play a key role in improving the drainage system.

Officials believe that the updated plan will help reduce flooding during heavy rainfall and improve the overall management of stormwater across the capital.

Ladli Scheme Payments Cleared for Beneficiaries

Gupta also highlighted progress under the Ladli Scheme, a programme designed to support the education and welfare of girls. She said the government has released nearly ₹200 crore to around 70,000 beneficiaries.

Many of these payments had remained pending for years and had not reached the intended recipients earlier. The government has now cleared these dues, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries finally receive the financial support meant for them.

She said the initiative reflects the Prime Minister’s vision of “Meri Punji, Mera Adhikar,” which emphasises that citizens should directly benefit from government schemes without delays or administrative hurdles.

Digital Governance and Transparency Measures

The Chief Minister further said that the administration is strengthening digital systems across departments to improve transparency and efficiency in public services.

Several digital initiatives have been introduced, including an e-file system for faster government processing, digital hospital records, and online booking for outpatient department appointments in hospitals. In addition, the government has rolled out digital asset management tools and the CM Jan Sunwai App, which allows residents to register grievances directly.

Gupta said these steps are intended to make governance more accessible and responsive while reducing paperwork and delays.

As the government completes its first year in office, she said the administration remains focused on improving public services, expanding welfare support, and strengthening infrastructure to address the needs of Delhi’s growing population.
