Crime – Nepal Man Arrested in Delhi for Double Murder in Uttarakhand
Crime – A Nepalese national has been taken into custody in connection with the alleged killing of his live-in partner and her young daughter in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was detained in Delhi while attempting to leave the city.

A senior police officer said the accused has been identified as Deepak Bahadur, 38, a resident of Nepal. He had reportedly been living in a rented room in the Jakhole area with a 34-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter for some time before the incident came to light.
Suspicion Raised After Neighbours Notice Unusual Silence
According to police officials, concerns were first raised on the evening of March 6 when a local resident, Yogendra Lal, contacted Jakhole police. Lal informed authorities that Bahadur and the woman had not been seen for several days, which appeared unusual to those living nearby.
He also reported an unpleasant odor coming from the rented accommodation where the trio had been staying. The information prompted local police to immediately visit the location to verify the situation.
When officers arrived, they found the room locked from the outside. The condition of the house and the odor intensified their suspicions, prompting them to gain entry into the premises.
Bodies of Woman and Child Discovered Inside Rented Room
After entering the room, police discovered the bodies of the woman and her minor daughter inside the residence. Officers at the scene confirmed that both victims were found inside the locked room, raising immediate concerns about foul play.
Authorities began a preliminary investigation at the location and secured the area while gathering evidence. The discovery of the bodies led to the launch of a wider search for Bahadur, who was not present at the scene when police arrived.
Investigators suspected that he may have fled after the crime. Local police alerted authorities in other cities and began tracking possible escape routes.
Accused Traced and Arrested in the National Capital
Police later located the suspect in Delhi following coordinated efforts between Uttarakhand and Delhi authorities. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akanksha Yadav, Bahadur was spotted near New Delhi Railway Station.
Officials said he was attempting to board a train headed for Mumbai when police apprehended him. The arrest took place before he could leave the capital, preventing a possible escape to another state.
After being taken into custody, Bahadur was questioned by police regarding the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the deaths.
Investigation Continues as Authorities Examine Motive
Police have stated that further details will emerge as the investigation progresses. Officers are working to determine the exact cause of death and the motive behind the suspected crime.
The bodies of the woman and her daughter were sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the cause and timing of the deaths. Investigators are also collecting statements from neighbours and individuals familiar with the family to understand their recent activities.
Officials said cooperation between state police forces played a key role in locating the suspect quickly. Further legal proceedings will follow as the case moves forward.
