Crime – Man Arrested for ₹15 Lakh Theft in South Delhi
Crime – The Delhi Police have taken into custody a 38-year-old man accused of stealing cash and gold jewellery worth nearly ₹15 lakh from the residence of his live-in partner in the Maidan Garhi area of the capital.

Complaint Filed After Daytime Theft
According to police officials, the case came to light after a complaint was lodged by Arti Sharma, who resides in a flat in Chhatarpur. She informed authorities that the alleged theft occurred on February 16 between 8 am and 8 pm, during which a substantial amount of valuables went missing from her home.
In her statement to the police, Sharma reported that gold jewellery and approximately ₹5 lakh in cash had been stolen. Acting on her complaint, officers at the Maidan Garhi police station registered a formal case and initiated an investigation.
Duplicate Key Lead Breaks the Case
As part of the probe, investigators began examining possible access points and individuals who may have had entry to the flat. During the course of inquiries, a local key maker provided a crucial lead. He reportedly identified Sudhir Kumar, a resident of Sangam Vihar, as the person who had approached him to prepare a duplicate key.
Police officials said this information significantly narrowed the scope of the investigation. Technical surveillance and further verification were carried out to track the suspect’s movements and establish his involvement in the alleged crime.
Accused Traced and Taken Into Custody
Based on the evidence gathered, a police team traced Kumar to his residence in Sangam Vihar. He was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody for questioning.
During the arrest, officers recovered a portion of the stolen items from his possession. The seized materials included gold jewellery, ₹4.54 lakh in cash, and the duplicate key believed to have been used to gain access to the flat. Authorities stated that the recovery of these items strengthened the case against the accused.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings Underway
Police officials confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to determine the full sequence of events and whether any additional individuals were involved. Statements are being recorded, and the recovered items have been documented as part of the evidence.
The accused is expected to be produced before a court as legal proceedings move forward. Law enforcement authorities reiterated that the matter remains under investigation and that additional details may emerge as the case progresses.
Incidents involving breach of trust in personal relationships have raised concerns in recent years, particularly in metropolitan areas. Police officials have advised residents to remain cautious about safeguarding valuables and limiting access to house keys.
The Delhi Police emphasized that timely reporting and cooperation from local residents played a key role in solving the case quickly. Further updates are likely as the investigation continues and the judicial process unfolds.
