Crime – Maharashtra Government Assures Safety After Attack on Filmmaker Residence
Crime – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday urged members of the film industry in Mumbai to remain calm following the recent shooting incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence. He assured that the administration is taking firm steps to prevent any escalation of criminal activity in the city.

Government Responds to Rising Security Concerns
Speaking during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council, Fadnavis addressed concerns raised about the safety of public figures. The issue was brought forward by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sachin Ahir, who pointed to a pattern of intimidation targeting prominent personalities in Mumbai.
The Chief Minister emphasized that law enforcement agencies are actively working to ensure security and stability. He stated that adequate protection measures have already been extended to individuals who may be at risk.
Accused Linked to Organized Crime Network
Providing details of the investigation, Fadnavis identified the primary suspect as Shubham Lonkar, who is believed to be associated with the Bishnoi gang. According to officials, Lonkar’s brother has already been taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend Shubham, who is currently believed to be outside India.
Authorities noted that the suspect has a history of issuing threats to political figures across party lines. His method reportedly involves making calls from abroad to intimidate individuals. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that he would be arrested in due course.
Custody Sought for Another Key Accused
Fadnavis also informed the Council that the state government has requested custody of Anmol Bishnoi, who is presently in the custody of the National Investigation Agency. He is wanted in connection with multiple cases registered in Mumbai.
Officials indicated that once the central agency completes its investigation, the Maharashtra Police will take over custody for further legal proceedings related to pending cases.
Details of the Shooting Incident
In a written response, the Chief Minister outlined the sequence of events related to the attack. The incident occurred on the night of February 1, when an unidentified individual fired several rounds from a weapon resembling a pistol near Shetty Tower, the filmmaker’s residence in Mumbai.
A complaint was registered at Juhu Police Station soon after the incident, and the case was subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch for detailed investigation.
Investigators confirmed that five rounds were discharged during the attack. One of the bullets struck the glass portion of the building’s gallery, causing minor damage. Forensic teams recovered glass fragments and empty cartridges from the scene.
Evidence Collection and Ongoing Probe
Police officials have collected key pieces of evidence, including CCTV footage from the area. Based on this footage, authorities have identified the vehicle used in the incident and seized mobile phones along with SIM cards believed to be connected to the suspects.
The investigation is being carried out in a coordinated manner, with multiple agencies involved in tracing the network behind the attack.
Arrests Made and Search Continues
So far, 13 individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Of these, 12 have been remanded to judicial custody following orders from the Special MCOCA Court, while one remains in police custody for further questioning.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing their search for three additional suspects believed to be involved in the incident. Officials have stated that the investigation is still underway and more developments are expected.
