Crime – Delhi Woman Arrested for Honey-Trap Extortion Network Case
Crime – A 44-year-old woman from Delhi, along with her associate, has been taken into custody for allegedly operating a honey-trap scheme and filing fabricated criminal complaints to extort money from victims. The accused woman is a resident of Daryaganj, while her aide, identified as Yashdev Singh Chauhan, also aged 44, lives in the New Usmanpur area.

Investigation Reveals Organized Extortion Method
According to officials from the Crime Branch, preliminary findings suggest that the duo was part of a structured operation designed to trap individuals and extract money through legal intimidation. Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Gautam stated that the woman reportedly maintained distance from direct financial dealings, relying on her associate to communicate and negotiate with targets.
The investigation points to a consistent pattern in which victims were first lured into a seemingly genuine interaction before being drawn into disputes that later escalated into legal threats.
Victim Targeted Through Social Media Contact
Police sources revealed that one of the complainants, a retired Army captain, was approached by the woman via social media. She reportedly initiated contact under the pretext of assisting in promoting his written work. Over time, she gained his confidence and persuaded him to engage in certain financial transactions.
Authorities allege that once monetary dealings were established, disputes were deliberately created. This was followed by the filing of a criminal case against the victim in 2021, which further increased pressure on him.
Legal Developments and Supreme Court Intervention
After the case was registered, a chargesheet was filed against the retired officer. However, the complainant challenged the case in court, maintaining that the allegations were baseless. In February last year, the Supreme Court reviewed the matter and quashed the FIR, effectively dismissing the charges against him.
Following this development, the retired captain approached the police again, leading to a fresh case being registered against the accused woman and her aide for allegedly framing him in a false extortion attempt.
Police Continue Probe Into Wider Network
Investigators are now examining whether more individuals were targeted using similar tactics. Officials believe the case may be part of a broader pattern of honey-trap-related extortion activities, where emotional manipulation is combined with legal pressure to extract money.
Police are also reviewing digital communication records and financial transactions to identify additional victims and determine the full scope of the operation.
The accused individuals remain in custody as further inquiries continue.
