Crime – A Bangladeshi student activist wanted in connection with the killing of a Hindu police officer in his home country was detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and later sent back to Bangladesh, officials confirmed on Thursday.

According to official sources, the man was stopped by immigration authorities while attempting to leave India on a flight bound for a European country. The suspect has been identified as Ahmed Raza Hasan Mehdi, a resident of Habiganj district in Bangladesh.

Immigration officers reportedly flagged his details during routine document checks at the international departure terminal. After verifying his identity and reviewing alerts linked to his name, authorities prevented him from boarding the flight and took him into custody for further questioning.

Murder Charges in Bangladesh

Mehdi is accused of involvement in the killing of Sub-Inspector Santosh Chowdhury, a Hindu police officer, in Bangladesh. The incident took place on August 5, 2024, and triggered significant concern within local law enforcement agencies.

Bangladeshi authorities had reportedly registered a case against him in connection with the officer’s death. Since then, he had been on the radar of investigators. Details surrounding how he entered India or how long he had been staying in the country were not immediately disclosed by officials.
