Crime – Andheri Man Arrested After Violent Domestic Dispute
Crime – A domestic dispute in Andheri’s MIDC area escalated into a serious assault case, leading to the arrest of a 48-year-old man accused of attempting to kill his wife and injuring his son, police said on Tuesday.
Argument Over Mobile Phone Turns Violent
According to officials from the MIDC Police, the incident occurred inside the family’s residence following an argument reportedly linked to a mobile phone. What began as a disagreement between the couple soon intensified, creating a volatile situation within the household.
Police identified the accused as Santosh Rawate. Investigators said tensions rose after a dispute concerning access to the mobile phone and certain conversations, which allegedly triggered anger and confrontation. During the altercation, Rawate is accused of attacking his 44-year-old wife, Neeta Rawate, with a sharp object.
Authorities stated that the woman sustained serious injuries in the assault. Emergency arrangements were made to shift her to a trauma care hospital in Jogeshwari, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Medical professionals are closely monitoring her condition.
Son Injured While Trying to Intervene
The couple’s son was also injured during the incident. Police reported that he suffered wounds to his left hand when the accused allegedly attempted to assault him as well. The presence of the young child at home during the episode has raised further concern among investigators.
A seven-year-old child was also inside the residence at the time of the incident, according to preliminary findings. Officials are examining whether the child witnessed the altercation as part of their ongoing inquiry.
Neighbours Alert Police
The disturbance reportedly drew the attention of neighbours, who stepped in and promptly informed the police control room. Their quick action is believed to have prevented further harm and enabled authorities to respond without delay.
Upon reaching the location, officers detained the accused and secured the scene. He was later formally arrested and charged under sections related to attempted murder and assault, officials confirmed.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Probe
Police presented the accused before a local magistrate, who remanded him to police custody for further questioning. Investigators are now collecting statements from family members, neighbours and medical staff to establish the exact sequence of events.
Officials said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the escalation of the dispute. Forensic examination of the weapon allegedly used in the assault is also part of the inquiry.
