Corruption – A fresh political debate has emerged after Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal compared how two separate suicide cases were handled in Punjab and Haryana, raising questions over administrative accountability and political intent.

Allegations Trigger Political Confrontation

Speaking through a social media post, Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of shielding individuals in Haryana while asserting that his party acted promptly in Punjab. He pointed to a recent case in Punjab where allegations linked a minister to the suicide of a government official. According to him, immediate action was taken, including removal from office and subsequent arrest.

Kejriwal contrasted this with a case in Haryana involving the death of an IPS officer, where names reportedly appeared in a suicide note. He alleged that despite these claims, no comparable action had been taken, suggesting a difference in governance approaches between the two states.

Punjab Case Leads to Swift Action

The remarks come amid developments surrounding the death of Punjab Warehousing Corporation official Gagandeep Singh Randhawa. Authorities stated that Randhawa allegedly died by suicide following claims of harassment involving former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar.

Police registered a case and arrested Bhullar after he stepped down from his position. Officials confirmed that charges related to abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation have been invoked. The resignation was accepted by the state leadership amid rising pressure and public scrutiny.

Investigating officers said the accused would be presented in court as part of the legal process. The case has also led to protests by employees of the state warehousing corporation, who have demanded strict action and justice for the deceased.

Issue Reaches Parliament

The matter has also gained national attention after being raised in Parliament. A Member of Parliament from Punjab called for a detailed investigation into the allegations. In response, the Union Home Minister stated that the central government would consider handing over the probe to a central agency if a formal request is submitted by Punjab representatives.

This development has added another dimension to the case, bringing it into the broader national political discourse.

Haryana Case Raises Questions

At the same time, attention has been drawn to a separate incident in Haryana involving the death of an IPS officer, Y Puran Kumar. He was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh with a gunshot wound. Authorities recovered an eight-page note that reportedly mentioned several officials and described alleged harassment.

While the case remains under investigation, opposition voices have questioned the pace and nature of action taken so far. The comparison between the two incidents has intensified political exchanges between parties.

Government Response and Policy Stand

Punjab’s leadership has reiterated its stance of maintaining strict action against corruption and misconduct. The Chief Minister has emphasized that no individual is above the law and that due legal procedures will be followed in all cases.

The contrasting narratives presented by political leaders reflect broader concerns about transparency, accountability, and the handling of sensitive cases involving public officials. As investigations continue in both states, the developments are likely to remain a focal point in ongoing political debates.
