Bus Accident – A devastating road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district on Friday claimed the lives of five passengers and left around 20 others injured after a private bus overturned while traveling between Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, police officials confirmed.
Bus Was Traveling From Jharkhand Toward Kunkuri
According to police authorities, the bus had started its journey from Kurdeg in Jharkhand and was heading toward Kunkuri town in Chhattisgarh when the incident occurred. The vehicle was carrying several passengers at the time of the accident, many of whom were reportedly traveling for routine personal and work-related purposes.
The accident happened in the jurisdiction of Tapkara police station in Jashpur district. Officials said the bus overturned near Godaamba village, leading to chaos and panic among passengers.
Driver Reportedly Lost Control Near Godaamba Village
Senior Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh said preliminary information indicates that the driver lost control of the bus while passing through the area. As a result, the vehicle overturned on the roadside, causing severe injuries to many of the occupants.
Local residents were among the first to respond to the scene and helped pull injured passengers out of the damaged vehicle before emergency services arrived.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the driver losing control, but officials stated that the circumstances leading to the crash are being carefully examined.
Five Passengers Killed, Several Others Injured
Police confirmed that five passengers died as a result of the accident. Many others suffered injuries of varying severity. Around 20 injured passengers were immediately taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Some of the injured were transported in ambulances arranged by local authorities, while others were taken to hospitals with the help of nearby residents and police personnel.
Hospital sources indicated that a few of the injured are still under medical observation, though detailed updates on their condition have not yet been released.
Emergency Teams Conducted Rescue Operation
Soon after receiving information about the crash, senior police officers, local administration officials, and emergency rescue teams rushed to the accident site.
Rescue personnel worked to secure the area, assist trapped passengers, and ensure that the injured were quickly moved to hospitals for medical care. Traffic in the area was temporarily affected as authorities carried out the rescue and recovery operation.
