BMC Elections 2026: Sena (UBT)–MNS Alliance Announcement Is Likely Today Ahead of Mumbai Civic Polls in
BMC Elections 2026: Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut predicted that Wednesday will see the long-awaited declaration of an alliance between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) ahead of the January 15 municipal elections in Mumbai. The Rajya Sabha MP said, without providing any other information, that “Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS president Raj Thackeray will hold a press conference.” Raut sparked rumors about the official announcement earlier in the day when he shared a picture with the two cousins on social media with the message, “Tomorrow at 12 pm.”

For a while now, the two parties have been negotiating an alliance for the important Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. According to Raut, the talks are not only about Mumbai; they also include potential partnerships with the municipal corporations of Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira Bhayander, Nashik, and Pune. He continued by saying that negotiations for civic entities outside of Mumbai have already been completed by local units of both parties.
In response to rumors that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) in Pune would form an alliance, Raut said that his party would only voice its opinions after talks with them. He said, “We will have a discussion with NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar.” Ajit Pawar’s NCP is part of a group “that tramples upon the Constitution,” Raut said, adding that the party has no moral right to be a part of the Mahayuti ruling coalition, which is led by the BJP, particularly if it plans to form an alliance with the opposition NCP (SP) in Pune.
