AviationCrash – Questions Raised Over Liability in Fatal Baramati Learjet Tragedy
AviationCrash – Nearly six weeks after the tragic Learjet crash near Baramati that claimed the lives of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others, fresh questions have emerged regarding the ongoing investigation and possible responsibility for the accident.

Lawmaker Questions Aircraft Owner’s Early Claims
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) legislator Rohit Pawar has publicly raised concerns about remarks reportedly made by V K Singh, the owner of VSR Ventures, the company that operated the Learjet involved in the crash.
Speaking through a post on social media platform X on Monday, Pawar questioned how Singh could have concluded so soon after the incident that the pilot was responsible for the accident. According to Pawar, investigators have not yet disclosed what information was recovered from the aircraft’s black box, which typically provides key flight data used to determine the cause of aviation accidents.
“If the contents of the black box have not been officially revealed, it raises the question of how the company owner could so quickly identify the pilot as being at fault,” Pawar said. He suggested that such statements might give the impression that responsibility is being shifted prematurely.
Investigation Continues Without Detailed Public Updates
Officials from the Crime Investigation Department recently questioned V K Singh and recorded his statement as part of the probe. A CID officer confirmed that Singh had been examined last week but did not provide details about the discussion or the information gathered.
So far, the investigative agency has not issued any official statement explaining the scope of the questioning or whether Singh’s testimony will influence the direction of the inquiry.
The Learjet 45 aircraft, operated by VSR Ventures, crashed near the Baramati airstrip in Pune district on January 28. The accident resulted in the deaths of Ajit Pawar and four others who were on board. The tragedy shocked the state’s political and administrative circles, prompting a multi-agency investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash.
Confusion Over Black Box Data
One of the central issues highlighted by Rohit Pawar concerns the condition and availability of the aircraft’s black box data. Reports circulating in different media outlets have provided conflicting accounts about whether the device was destroyed in the crash or whether investigators were able to recover usable data.
Pawar pointed out that while some reports claimed the black box had been severely damaged by fire, others suggested that important flight information had been successfully retrieved. According to him, the lack of clarity has contributed to speculation and confusion about what actually happened during the final moments of the flight.
Preliminary Findings Yet to Gain Credibility
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is responsible for examining aviation accidents in India, has reportedly prepared a preliminary report on the incident. However, Pawar indicated that the credibility of the document remains uncertain because the full details have not been made public.
“The investigation is still underway, and until official findings are released, it would be premature to accept any assumptions or unverified claims,” the legislator said.
He urged people to avoid drawing conclusions based on incomplete information or speculation circulating on social media or in unconfirmed reports.
Call for Transparent Investigation
The lawmaker emphasized that only a thorough and transparent investigation can establish the exact cause of the crash. Aviation experts typically rely on flight data, cockpit voice recordings, weather reports, and aircraft maintenance records to determine the sequence of events leading to an accident.
For now, investigators have maintained silence regarding the technical findings of the probe. Authorities have also not indicated how long the inquiry may take before final conclusions are released.
As the investigation continues, political leaders, aviation officials, and the public are awaiting clear answers about the circumstances surrounding the Baramati tragedy and whether any operational or technical failures contributed to the fatal crash.
