Elections in the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), and three-tiered Gram Panchayats, including the zilla parishads, will take place on Monday, according to a statement released by State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rinchin Tashi on Sunday.

He noted that Monday’s voting would start at 7 a.m. and go until 4 p.m.

The National People’s Party (NPP) only managed one seat in the Zilla Parishad, while the incumbent BJP has already won 58 seats without any opposition.

In addition to 5,037 BJP nominees for gram panchayat seats being declared elected without a contest, four BJP candidates were elected to the IMC.

There are 440 candidates vying for 186 Zilla Parishad seats, 39 for 16 IMC wards, and 21 for eight PMC wards.

8,31,648 electors in total are entitled to vote, including 72,438 for municipal elections and 7,59,210 for panchayat organizations.

The SEC Tashi claims that 12 voting places were set up for the PMC and 67 for the IMC out of the 2,171 polling places for the panchayat elections.

According to him, more women than men cast ballots in the panchayat elections.

More than 40,000 employees, including 15,000 poll workers, were hired, according to the SEC, to make sure the polls ran well.

He stated that ballot boxes would be utilized for panchayat voting and electronic voting machines (EVMs) for municipal elections.

On December 20, the votes will be counted.

Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik, the governor of Arunachal Pradesh (retd.), made a strong call on Sunday for all voters in the state to fully participate in the Panchayat and Municipal elections on Monday.

According to the governor, significant public involvement in the planning and execution of development depends on Panchayati Raj Institutions operating at the local level.

In order to better serve their communities, he also encouraged municipal councils—urban authorities that are directly elected by the people—to make the most of their enormous duty and ability to support development.

The governor reflected on India’s democratic heritage and reminded the populace that the nation is the greatest democracy in the world, based on adult suffrage and universal suffrage.

He emphasized that every vote is highly important and should be cast honestly, not just as a constitutional right but also as a moral and patriotic obligation.

In order to guarantee free, fair, and peaceful elections across the state, Lieutenant General Parnaik, (retd.) also urged all officers on election duty to maintain the highest standards of dedication, impartiality, transparency, and accountability.
