Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Jammu late Thursday night after a brief delay in his schedule. He arrived around 11 p.m. and was received at the airport by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. From there, the Home Minister travelled to Lok Bhawan, where he stayed overnight in preparation for a packed schedule on Friday.

Border Visit Planned in Kathua Sector

On Friday, Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district. The visit includes stops at forward Border Security Force posts, including the Gurnam and Bobiya border outposts. Officials said the purpose of the visit is to assess ground-level security arrangements and review steps taken to prevent infiltration attempts along the border.

During the visit, the Home Minister will inspect infrastructure and operational measures put in place by the BSF. Several border posts and fencing sections were damaged during heavy monsoon floods in August and September last year and have since been repaired. The inspection is expected to include a review of those restoration efforts.

Welfare Schemes for BSF Personnel

From the Bobiya border outpost, Amit Shah will electronically inaugurate and lay the foundation for six welfare-related initiatives aimed at improving facilities for BSF personnel. Officials said these schemes are intended to enhance living conditions, operational support, and overall well-being of personnel deployed in difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions.

The Home Minister will also interact directly with BSF officers and jawans stationed along the International Border. Feedback from personnel on operational challenges and local conditions is expected to form part of the broader security assessment.

High-Level Security Review Meeting

After returning from the border visit, Amit Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting at Lok Bhawan. Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, heads of central paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and top officers from the Jammu and Kashmir administration will participate.

Those attending include Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and senior police and intelligence officials from across the Union Territory. The meeting will focus on the overall security situation, with particular attention to ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the hilly areas of the Jammu region.

Focus on Anti-Terror Operations

Officials said the review will cover recent operations against foreign terrorists operating in districts such as Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch, and Rajouri. The presence of militants in these areas continues to be a key concern for security agencies.

Earlier this week, joint security forces neutralised three Jaish-e-Mohammed militants. Two were killed during an operation in Basantgarh in Udhampur district, while another was eliminated in Chatroo area of Kishtwar. These operations are expected to be discussed in detail during the security review.

Meetings With Families and Development Review

In addition to security-related engagements, the Home Minister will distribute compassionate appointment letters and meet families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. These interactions will also take place at Lok Bhawan.

A separate high-level meeting will be held to review developmental progress in Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, senior MHA officials, and representatives of the civil administration will attend the session. The focus will be on assessing the implementation of ongoing projects and future development priorities.

Security Measures Stepped Up Ahead of Visit

Security across the Jammu region has been tightened ahead of the Home Minister’s visit. Additional deployments and surveillance measures have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of official कार्यक्रम and public safety.

Amit Shah is scheduled to return to New Delhi on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, on January 8, he chaired a security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in the national capital, where he directed agencies to adopt a mission-mode approach to eliminate terrorism and ensure zero infiltration along the borders.
