Accident – Speeding Car Hits Rickshaw in Chembur, One Dead, Two Injured
Accident – A tragic road accident in Mumbai’s Chembur area claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman and left two others injured after a fast-moving car crashed into an auto-rickshaw on Monday morning. The incident occurred during peak commute hours, raising fresh concerns about reckless driving on busy city roads.

Collision Near Amar Mahal Bridge
According to police officials, the accident took place around 7:45 am near the descent of Amar Mahal Bridge along the Eastern Express Highway in the Postal Colony area. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving all occupants of the auto-rickshaw with significant injuries.
Emergency responders quickly reached the spot after receiving alerts and shifted the victims to Rajawadi Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Victim Identified, Injured Under Treatment
The deceased woman has been identified as Hafiza Baba Sheikh, a resident of Bainganwadi in Govandi. Doctors at the hospital declared her dead upon arrival. Two others injured in the incident include 65-year-old Chandbi Hussain Sheikh and the auto-rickshaw driver, Virendrakumar Bhagwati Prasad.
Both injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment, and hospital authorities have stated that they are being closely monitored.
Sequence of Events Leading to Crash
Police investigations revealed that the rickshaw driver, originally from Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Shivajinagar, Govandi, had started his day as usual and was waiting for passengers near the Bainganwadi signal.
Shortly after, two women boarded his vehicle, requesting to be dropped at Swami Pramukh Hospital in Chunabhatti. As the rickshaw proceeded along its route and approached the slope near Amar Mahal Bridge, a speeding car reportedly came from behind and rammed into it with considerable force.
The sudden collision caused the rickshaw to jolt violently, resulting in serious injuries to all three occupants.
Driver Flees Scene After Incident
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the crash without offering assistance to the injured or notifying the police. This has led to additional charges being considered against the unidentified आरोपी for failing to provide help after causing the accident.
Based on the complaint filed by the injured rickshaw driver, police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence along with charges related to injury.
Police Launch Search Operation
The Nehrunagar police have initiated a search operation to trace the absconding driver. Officials are currently examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the vehicle involved and track its movement before and after the incident.
Investigators believe that footage from traffic cameras along the Eastern Express Highway could provide crucial leads in identifying the आरोपी.
Concerns Over Road Safety
This incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with overspeeding, particularly on major highways within city limits. The Eastern Express Highway is one of Mumbai’s busiest roads, and accidents in this stretch are not uncommon during rush hours.
Authorities have urged motorists to follow traffic rules strictly and maintain safe speeds, especially in areas with heavy vehicle movement and pedestrian crossings.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and police work to apprehend the accused driver.
