Elections – Madhya Pradesh Armed Units Deployed for Eastern Polls
Elections – A significant deployment of armed personnel from Madhya Pradesh is underway to support the conduct of upcoming assembly elections in eastern India, ensuring a secure and transparent voting process.

Large-Scale Deployment for Poll Security
Around 4,000 personnel from the Madhya Pradesh Special Armed Force (MPSAF), organized into 40 companies, have been assigned election duty in Assam and West Bengal. These forces are being sent to assist local authorities in maintaining order and enabling smooth polling operations.
According to officials, the movement of these units began earlier this week. While a portion of the force has already reached Assam, the remaining companies departed from key locations including Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Gwalior via special trains. Their arrival is expected shortly as preparations intensify ahead of polling day.
Assam First, Then West Bengal
The deployment plan prioritizes Assam, where voting will take place in a single phase on April 9. Once polling concludes there, the same personnel will be reassigned to West Bengal. Elections in West Bengal are scheduled to be conducted in two phases later in April.
This phased movement allows authorities to efficiently utilize the same security forces across multiple states while maintaining a strong presence in sensitive areas during elections.
Role Within Election Security Framework
The deployed units will function as part of the broader election security arrangement coordinated by the Election Commission. They will work alongside Central Armed Police Forces and local law enforcement agencies to ensure law and order is maintained throughout the electoral process.
Their responsibilities are expected to include area domination, guarding polling stations, and assisting in the safe transport of election materials. Such deployments are considered crucial, particularly in regions where elections may involve heightened political activity.
Experienced Leadership Assigned
To oversee the operations, senior officials from the Madhya Pradesh police have been assigned key roles. A designated nodal officer will coordinate the activities of all deployed companies across both states. Supporting him will be a team of battalion commandants, along with assistant and deputy-level officers who will manage on-ground execution.
This structured leadership ensures that communication and coordination remain effective across multiple locations during the election period.
Past Deployment Trends
Officials noted that similar deployments have been carried out in previous elections as well. In recent years, Madhya Pradesh has contributed armed units to several major state polls. For instance, during the 2021 assembly elections in southern and eastern states, a comparable number of companies were sent.
However, the current deployment stands among the largest in recent times, second only to a previous instance when an even higher number of companies were assigned to election duties in northern India.
Additional Administrative Oversight
In addition to security forces, administrative oversight has also been strengthened in the poll-bound states. Several senior civil and police officers from across the country have already been stationed there as observers. Their role is to monitor election procedures, ensure compliance with guidelines, and address any irregularities promptly.
This combined presence of security personnel and senior officials reflects the emphasis placed on conducting elections that are free, fair, and transparent.
Focus on Free and Fair Elections
The deployment highlights the coordinated effort between states and central authorities to uphold democratic processes. By reinforcing security arrangements and ensuring strict monitoring, election authorities aim to provide a safe environment for voters.
As the election dates approach, preparations continue to gain momentum, with security and logistics being closely managed to avoid disruptions.
