Attack Reported Near Gangasagar Transport Route
The shooting took place on Sagar Island along a stretch of road between the Gangasagar bus terminus and the Sridham bus terminus. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Gangasagar coastal police station. Authorities said the incident occurred during the day when the local BJP functionary, identified as Trilokesh Dhali, was traveling through the area.
Police said two men riding a motorcycle approached Dhali and opened fire. The assailants reportedly fired two rounds before fleeing the scene immediately after the attack. The sudden nature of the assault created panic in the vicinity, though no other injuries were reported.
Victim Sustained Gunshot Injury to Abdomen
Investigators confirmed that one of the bullets struck Dhali in the stomach, leaving him in serious condition. Bystanders and local residents quickly arranged to transport him to a nearby medical facility where doctors provided initial emergency treatment.
Medical personnel assessed the severity of his injuries and recommended advanced care. Following the preliminary treatment at the local hospital, Dhali was transferred to a medical center in Kolkata for further management and specialized care.
