AssamPolitics – JMM and Jai Bharat Party Forge Alliance Ahead of Polls

AssamPolitics –  Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday publicly announced a political partnership between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Jai Bharat Party (JBP) during a large awareness rally held at the Mijikajan Tea Estate in Assam. The announcement comes at a time when preparations are gathering pace for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, making the alliance an important development in the state’s evolving political landscape.

Alliance Announced During Tea Estate Rally

Addressing workers and residents gathered at the tea estate, Soren described the alliance as a step toward strengthening representation for tribal communities and other marginalised groups. The rally drew significant participation from tea garden workers and members of tribal communities who form an important part of Assam’s tea industry workforce.

Soren highlighted the historical contribution of tribal labourers to the growth and global reputation of India’s tea sector. According to him, the industry’s success is deeply linked to the dedication and hard work of these communities. He said it is essential that they receive not only recognition but also fair opportunities, rights, and respect within the broader social and political system.

Call for Unity Among Tribal Communities

During his speech, the Chief Minister repeatedly stressed the need for unity among tribal groups. He stated that collective awareness and organisation are vital for safeguarding their identity, culture, and social rights.

Soren explained that when communities remain divided, their voices tend to weaken in political and policy discussions. However, when they stand together, they can effectively demand equal treatment and greater representation. He urged people to remain informed about political developments and actively participate in efforts that strengthen community solidarity.

Election Preparations and Organisational Expansion

Referring to the approaching elections, Soren said that planning and organisational work are already underway. Party leaders, he noted, are focusing on strengthening their network at the grassroots level and connecting with workers, labourers, and socially disadvantaged groups.

He suggested that when the economically weaker sections of society unite around common concerns, their collective voice becomes difficult to ignore. According to him, building a strong organisational structure will help ensure that the concerns of these communities are represented more effectively in the political process.

Importance of Democratic Participation

Another key part of Soren’s address focused on the role of voters in a democracy. He encouraged people attending the rally to exercise their right to vote responsibly and remain engaged in public affairs.

The Chief Minister said that active participation in elections is essential for ensuring that governance reflects the needs of ordinary citizens. He emphasised that every vote contributes to shaping policies and leadership, making civic participation an important responsibility.

Broader Political Strategy Beyond Jharkhand

Political observers view the alliance between JMM and JBP as a sign that the party is expanding its strategy beyond its traditional stronghold in Jharkhand. The development also signals a possible shift in political dynamics in regions where tribal communities play a significant role.

Sources within the party suggest that the JMM has been exploring opportunities to strengthen its presence in tribal-dominated areas across several states. This strategy gained momentum after the party reportedly faced limited space during seat-sharing negotiations in the Bihar Assembly elections.

Earlier Plans to Expand Political Presence

The decision to widen political activities outside Jharkhand was first publicly indicated during the party’s 13th General Convention held in Ranchi in April last year. At that event, leaders announced plans to increase political engagement in select constituencies across Assam, Odisha, and West Bengal.

Soren’s visit to Assam this week is considered part of that broader outreach effort. With the state expected to hold Assembly elections around April, party leaders are currently evaluating local political conditions and identifying possible constituencies where they could field candidates.

Focus on Migrant Community Mobilisation

Party insiders also indicated that one of the strategies being explored involves organising migrant communities connected to Jharkhand who are living and working in Assam. These groups are believed to have strong cultural and social ties that could form the basis of political mobilisation.

To support this effort, the party has been working to build organisational networks in different parts of the country. Leaders say the long-term objective is to strengthen the party’s national presence while representing communities that feel underrepresented in mainstream politics.
