Zelensky said he would still try to negotiate a better stance on territory during a Friday phone chat with Axios. However, he feels that a referendum on the full 20-point plan would be the wisest course of action if it calls for “a very difficult” choice on that matter, according to Xinhua news agency.

A 60-day truce to plan and conduct the poll “is the minimum,” he argued, since a plebiscite of that kind would present significant logistical, political, and security challenges.

According to a senior US source who spoke to Axios, the Russians desire a quicker timeline but recognize that a truce is necessary if Zelensky proposes a vote.

When they meet on Sunday in the US state of Florida, Zelensky said he wants to reach an agreement with US President Donald Trump on a framework for resolving the problem.

According to him, five papers presently include the majority of the bilateral US-Ukraine agreements, however a sixth might be added.

The US administration has suggested a 15-year agreement that may be extended on the length of security assurances after the restoration of peace in Ukraine. “I think we need more than 15 years,” Zelensky said to Axios.

Zelensky stated that the security assurances will be presented to the legislatures of both the US and Ukraine for confirmation.

According to the story, which cited a Ukrainian source, Zelensky, Trump, and a group of European leaders are scheduled to have a conference call on Saturday to update everyone on the status of the negotiations.
