Why have all Alaska Airlines flights been grounded today, Initial information released
On Thursday, Alaska Airlines announced that all of its airport flights were grounded. According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) alert, subsidiary Horizon Air was also affected by the ground halt.
The ground halt was requested by the airlines for a duration of one hour and ten minutes, ending at 0000 GMT.
Why were flights operated by Alaska Airlines grounded?
Due to an unidentified technical breakdown that ultimately affected all of its operations, the ground halt was implemented. In July, the airline had an IT disruption that caused all of its aircraft to be temporarily grounded for around three hours.
“An IT disruption is disrupting operations at Alaska Airlines. There is a temporary ground stop. In a social media message, Alaska Airlines expressed regret for the inconvenience.
“Please check your flight status before you go to the airport if you have a flight tonight,” they advised. Customers who posted online complaints and concerns were also addressed by the airline on social media.
“Unfortunately, we are experiencing an error on our system, but our IT team is working to get this resolved as soon as possible,” it replied when a user on X inquired about whether the airline’s app was also experiencing problems.
When a consumer inquired about booking issues on the airline’s website, Alaska Airlines also responded in a similar manner. 71 planes were delayed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport during the ground halt, according to ABC15 Arizona.
Alaska Airlines resumed operations in July after the planes were grounded for about three hours. “At around 8 PM Pacific on Sunday (0300 GMT on Monday), Alaska Airlines experienced an IT outage that’s impacting our operations,” they told Reuters at the time. For flights operated by Alaska and Horizon Air, we asked for a temporary, system-wide ground halt. Additionally, no particular explanation for the IT disruption had been given at the time.
