US: Sergio Gor is welcomed by Vance and Rubio as ambassador to India
US: As Sergio Gor officially took over as the U.S. ambassador to India, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio publicly welcomed him, highlighting early indications of continuity and momentum in the bilateral relationship under President Donald Trump.

“Mr. Ambassador, congratulations. You’ll do admirably! In response to Gor’s message on his first day at the US Embassy in New Delhi, Vance responded on X.
In a another post, Rubio reiterated the idea, writing simply, “You will do a great job!”
The communications were sent only hours after Gor, in a statement stressing optimism and cooperation with President Trump’s foreign policy aims, announced his arrival and the beginning of his term in India.
“Namaste! I started working at the US Embassy in New Delhi today,” Gor tweeted. “I am excited to get to work advancing President Donald Trump’s priorities and strengthening the US-India partnership, and I am honored to join this committed team.”
“Under President Trump’s leadership, I am extremely hopeful about the days ahead for both of our countries,” he said.
Photographs from the US Embassy in New Delhi were included with Gor’s post, showing him addressing staff members and welcoming them under the embassy’s seal as the American and Indian flags were prominently displayed.
Policy watchers and Indian-American community members were quick to respond on his arrival and first-day message, with many pointing out the tone and content of his first outreach.
Prominent Indian-American investor and pundit Asha Jadeja Motwani praised the development, describing it as “excellent news.”
“This was the first thing US Ambassador Sergio Gor performed after arriving and settling in Delhi! She wrote, “Congratulations to the Indian and American teams. “This is the most crucial thing that could have happened as a first step.”
Gor said, “No partner more essential than India,” according to Derek J. Grossman, a veteran military expert, who wrote on X that Trump’s new ambassador to India was “coming in hot and heavy.” The envoy had invited New Delhi to participate in the administration’s new Pax Silica effort, Grossman continued.
