The US launched Operation Hawkeye Strike in Syria to destroy ISIS members, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Friday.

“Earlier today, U.S. forces launched OPERATION HAWKEYE STRIKE in Syria to destroy ISIS fighters, infrastructure, and weapons sites in direct response to the attack on U.S. forces that took place in Palmyra, Syria on December 13th,” Hegseth said in a post on X. This is a proclamation of revenge, not the start of a battle. Under President Trump’s direction, the United States of America will always stand up for its citizens

“If you target Americans anywhere in the world, you will live the rest of your short, tense life knowing that the United States will hunt you down, find you, and brutally kill you,” we said immediately after the barbaric act. We chased and slaughtered our adversaries today. Many of them. And we’ll keep going,” he continued.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump threatened to punish terrorists more severely than before.

“I am hereby announcing that the United States is inflicting very serious retaliation, just as I promised, on the murderous terrorists responsible for the vicious killing of brave American Patriots in Syria by ISIS, whose beautiful souls I welcomed home to American soil earlier this week in a very dignified ceremony. We are launching a fierce offensive against ISIS strongholds in Syria, a blood-stained country with many issues but a promising future if ISIS can be defeated.”

“The Syrian government is entirely in favor of a guy who is working very hard to restore greatness to Syria. “This is a warning to all terrorists who are evil enough to attack Americans: if you attack or threaten the United States of America in any way, you will be hit harder than you have ever been hit before,” he said.

One of the individuals told CNN that the attacks were known as “Operation Hawkeye,” a reference to the fact that the two US troops murdered were from the “Hawkeye State” of Iowa. The strikes targeted dozens of ISIS-affiliated targets, including infrastructure and weapons storage facilities across Syria.

Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres Tovar, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa, were named this week as the two American military personnel killed in Syria. According to the US Army, they were killed in Palmyra, Syria, while battling enemy troops. Both troops served in the 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, Iowa National Guard.

Three more members of the Iowa National Guard were transported for extra medical care after being injured in the assault.
