Trump: On Sunday, Zelenskyy will meet with in Florida to further peace negotiations
Trump: As part of attempts to forward a peace proposal aimed at putting an end to the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that he will meet with US President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday, according to CNN.
Zelenskyy warned that no final deal should be anticipated right away, but he said the meeting may assist bring talks closer to a conclusion. According to him, both parties would concentrate on resolving as many outstanding issues as they could.
Additionally, Zelenskyy said that the 20-point peace plan put out by Ukrainian and American authorities is 90% complete. He also said that discussions with Trump will focus on Ukraine’s long-term security assurances and the role played by its partners in maintaining post-war stability.
According to CNN, the White House did not immediately confirm the intended meeting. Zelenskyy’s remarks coincide with a resurgence of diplomatic activity, as Kyiv has shown an openness to talks on topics that have hindered earlier attempts at settlement.
In a post on X earlier in the day, Zelenskyy said that the US and Ukraine had decided to meet at a high level shortly and that important decisions may be made before the New Year.
Following the most recent round of negotiations between US and Ukrainian officials, Zelenskyy posted on X: “We have decided to meet with President Trump at the highest level soon. Before the New Year, several decisions may be made.
These events came after the Ukrainian leader met with Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy, and Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law, on Thursday as part of continuing conversations.
Zelenskyy provided an update on the content of the talks, stating that some of the papers that are part of a larger framework that aims to stop the war and aid in Ukraine’s rebuilding were “nearly ready” while others were “fully prepared.”
This diplomatic effort follows Zelenskyy’s presentation of a 20-point draft peace plan earlier this week, which he referred to as the main foundation for putting an end to the conflict.
Although the plan calls for Ukraine to get security assurances to prevent future Russian aggression, the US and Ukraine have not reached a territorial deal since Moscow is still demanding that Kyiv give up land.
In addition to geographical disputes, ownership over the captured Zaporizhzhia nuclear power facility is still up for debate.
