Taiwan- Taiwan’s defence authorities reported fresh military movements by China near the island, highlighting continued tensions across the Taiwan Strait. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, multiple Chinese aircraft and naval units were tracked operating close to its territory early Saturday morning, raising concerns over regional stability.
Increased Military Presence Around Taiwan
The ministry stated that by 6 a.m. local time on Saturday, it had identified 13 sorties of Chinese military aircraft along with seven naval vessels and two official government ships in nearby waters. Of these aircraft, nine were observed crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait, a long-standing unofficial boundary, and entering Taiwan’s southwestern and eastern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
Taiwan’s armed forces closely monitored the developments and took appropriate response measures, the ministry said in an official update. The continued crossing of the median line is seen as a significant escalation, as it challenges previously observed norms between the two sides.
Similar Activity Reported a Day Earlier
The latest movements follow similar activity recorded on Friday. On that occasion, Taiwan detected six Chinese aircraft sorties, accompanied by 10 naval vessels and two official ships. Four of those aircraft also crossed the median line and entered the same ADIZ regions.
Officials noted that Taiwan’s military maintained surveillance and readiness throughout these operations. Such repeated incursions over consecutive days indicate a pattern of sustained pressure rather than isolated incidents.
