Inqilab Moncho advised the people to abstain from violence, vandalism, and arson as unrest broke out nationwide in the wake of Osman Hadi’s passing. The organization said in a late-night Facebook post on Thursday: “Some organizations want to make Bangladesh an ineffectual state by causing devastation and fire. They want to erode our nation’s autonomy and independence. You have to realize that 32 and 36 are not interchangeable.

The message went on: “As the elections in February get near, think about who really stands to gain if there is instability in the nation. collaborate completely with the administration and abstain from violence in order to preserve stability in Bangladesh.”

A journalist who was stranded on the rooftop after vandalism at the English-language newspaper The newspaper Star headquarters described the terrifying experience. According to bdnews24, the journalist said that they were notified by a phone call from outside when a portion of the rioting mob started to go toward The Daily Star building after assaulting the Prothom Alo office.

The newsroom personnel tried to flee after learning of the warning. But at that time, the crowd had moved to the ground level, where they began vandalizing the structure before burning it down. A group of journalists rushed to the tenth-floor rooftop in the midst of dense smoke, abandoning efforts to get below.

Later, fire service personnel showed up and put out the lower-story fire. To free the trapped people, four firemen scaled the roof.

Prothom Alo and The Daily Star will not be published on Friday in the wake of the assaults.
