Security agencies are on high alert as authorities continue to search the site for any surviving assailants after the assault, which included armed gunmen and suicide bombers.

Suicide Bombers Aim for the Main Door

The incident started when a suicide bomber set off explosives at the FC headquarters’ front entrance, causing panic and breaking through the barrier, according to security authorities cited by Reuters. Then, in the commotion, a second suicide attacker entered the facility.

“The first suicide bomber carried out the attack at the main entrance, and the second one managed to enter the compound,” a senior law enforcement officer told Reuters on condition of anonymity. We believe there are more armed militants inside.

As security personnel block off the area, gunfire breaks out.

As army personnel, FC commandos, and police units raced to the scene shortly after the explosions, unceasing gunfire reverberated across the area.

With the deployment of armored vehicles and the placement of snipers on nearby rooftops, the area was promptly blocked off. The senior official said, “Law enforcement personnel, including the army and police, have cordoned off the area and are carefully handling the situation,” adding that the operation is difficult due to the complicated structure of the facility.

Families in the area sought cover inside as traffic came to a complete stop, and residents recounted scenes of terror. Local resident Safdar Khan told Reuters, “Traffic has been stopped on the route. There are police, army, and other security forces everywhere. From inside the compound, we can still hear intermittent gunfire.

The military cantonment in Peshawar and a number of important government buildings are adjacent to the Frontier Constabulary headquarters, which raises questions about the assailants’ intentions and possible preparation for the attack.

Although top police officers acknowledged that emergency procedures were triggered across the province, the Pakistani government has not yet released an official announcement. While medical personnel went to the bomb scene, hospitals in Peshawar were told to be on standby.
