North Korea : claims that Kim Jong-un, the country’s leader, attended a hypersonic missile test
North Korea: Kim Jong-un was there when North Korea successfully fired hypersonic missiles in Pyongyang the day before, hitting targets in the East Sea, according to official media on Monday. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a sub-unit under a major fire strike group of the Korean People’s Army carried out a missile launching rehearsal “to assess the nation’s war deterrence and the readiness of the weapon system, as well as to verify its capacity to fulfill missions.”

The missile launch was detected by South Korea’s military at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, just hours before President Lee Jae Myung left for summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and following the US announcement that Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro had been captured in a massive military strike. We can verify that a crucial technological job for national security has been completed with today’s launching exercise. Kim was cited by the KCNA as stating, “The missile soldiers demonstrated the DPRK’s nuclear forces’ readiness without regret and gave confidence in it.”
According to Yonhap news agency, North Korea is officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or DPRK.
Kim said that his nation had “put its nuclear forces on a practical basis” and readied them for “an actual war,” calling the endeavors “an essential undertaking for self-defence” and encouraging the nation to “continuously upgrade the military means, especially offensive weapon systems.”To be honest, it is obvious that the goal of this kind of effort is to progressively elevate the nuclear war deterrent. Kim was reported in the KCNA article as adding, “The recent geopolitical crisis and complex international events are examples of why it is necessary.”
What the “recent geopolitical crisis” is was not made clear in the KCNA story, but the North’s foreign ministry on Sunday denounced the US military operation that arrested Maduro as “the most serious form of encroachment of sovereignty.”
According to the KCNA, the hypersonic missiles were fired from Pyongyang’s Ryokpho District and struck targets in the East Sea 1,000 kilometers distant.
Kim also wished all the commanders and troops of the missile forces a happy New Year and thanked the military unit responsible for the exercise.
He also expressed hopes that “All the missile forces would remain faithful to their sacred mission as a reliable shield for defending the sovereignty and security of the DPRK by fulfilling their consistent and responsible combat duty under iron discipline.”
Kim was joined at the most recent missile launch by Jang Chang-ha, the head of the Missile Administration, and Kim Jong-sik, the deputy department director of the Central Committee of the governing party.
The South Korean military deduced that the missiles may be the Hwasong-11Ma, a hypersonic missile created by adding hypersonic payloads to the KN-23 missile, despite the KCNA report’s lack of details on the missiles fired.
In October of last year, the missile was initially shown during a military parade. Later that same month, it was tested for the first time.
According to a study by the nonprofit Korea Defence Forum, the most recent test would have been intended to evaluate the aircraft’s range and low-altitude glide performance, while the previous year’s test seems to have been intended to confirm short-range flying and accuracy.
