IranDeal – Netanyahu Sets Strict Conditions for Tehran Agreement

IranDeal – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has outlined firm conditions for any future agreement with Iran, stating that a credible deal must ensure the complete removal of nuclear material, a full stop to uranium enrichment activities, and strict limits on ballistic missile development.

Conditions for a Future Agreement

Addressing a public conference on Sunday, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would not support an arrangement that falls short of dismantling what he described as Iran’s core nuclear capabilities. His remarks followed a recent meeting in Washington with US President Donald Trump, during which the issue of Iran was a central topic.

Netanyahu said Trump appears committed to exploring diplomatic avenues, noting that the US president believes a workable agreement may be within reach. Despite that optimism from Washington, Netanyahu expressed caution. He told the audience that he remains doubtful about Tehran’s long-term intentions and warned against what he sees as partial or symbolic concessions.

According to Netanyahu, any durable agreement must go beyond temporary restrictions. He argued that without eliminating nuclear materials and halting enrichment, as well as curbing missile programs, regional security concerns would remain unresolved.

Reframing Ties With Washington

Beyond Iran, Netanyahu also discussed Israel’s broader strategic posture, including its relationship with the United States. He said Israel aims to evolve its long-standing ties with Washington from a framework centered on aid to one based on partnership.

Such a shift, he explained, would involve strengthening Israel’s domestic defense manufacturing capabilities and reducing reliance on external assistance. Developing a more self-sufficient defense industry, he said, is part of a long-term vision to enhance national security while maintaining close coordination with key allies.

While Israel and the United States continue to cooperate closely on intelligence and military matters, Netanyahu suggested that the nature of that cooperation could become more balanced in the coming years.

Gaza Offensive and Tunnel Network

Turning to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Netanyahu provided an update on Israeli military operations targeting Hamas infrastructure. He said Israeli forces have dismantled approximately 150 kilometers of tunnel networks out of an estimated 500 kilometers constructed beneath the territory.

The tunnel system has long been described by Israeli officials as a critical component of Hamas’ military strategy, used to store weapons, facilitate movement, and shield command centers. Netanyahu stressed that Israel intends to continue its operations until these underground networks are fully neutralized.

“We have to complete the job,” he said, adding that eliminating the remaining tunnels is essential to prevent Hamas from rebuilding its military capacity. According to Netanyahu, the objective is to ensure that the group cannot reestablish weapons production sites or reorganize its forces.

Ceasefire Under Strain

Netanyahu also addressed the current ceasefire arrangement in Gaza, which came into effect on October 10, 2025. He described Israel as giving the ceasefire plan an opportunity to hold, but made clear that military action could resume if the government concludes that Hamas remains capable of rearming.

While the truce has reduced large-scale hostilities, tensions remain high. Gaza-based health authorities reported on Sunday that since the ceasefire began, 601 Palestinians have been killed and 1,607 injured in incidents involving Israeli forces.

Israeli officials have not publicly detailed the circumstances surrounding each reported casualty, and the figures have not been independently verified. The situation on the ground continues to evolve, with both sides accusing each other of violations.

Regional Uncertainty Continues

Netanyahu’s comments highlight the complexity of Israel’s security challenges, spanning diplomatic negotiations with Iran and ongoing military operations in Gaza. As international efforts to address Iran’s nuclear program continue, Israel’s leadership has signaled that it will closely scrutinize any proposed agreement.

At the same time, the fragile ceasefire in Gaza underscores the volatility of the region. Whether diplomatic initiatives or military strategies will bring longer-term stability remains uncertain, as leaders in Jerusalem and Washington weigh their next steps.
