Rescue Efforts Continue Across Affected Areas

Provincial authorities confirmed that emergency teams were immediately deployed to assist those trapped by rising المياه levels. Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, spokesperson for the Herat governor, stated that coordinated rescue operations helped prevent further casualties. In one incident, a trailer truck became stranded on the Herat-Kandahar highway due to strong flood currents. Swift intervention ensured that the situation was brought under control without additional harm.

Bus Accident Leaves Multiple Injured

The flooding also disrupted transportation in the region. A passenger bus traveling along the Herat–Farah highway overturned after encountering waterlogged roads. As a result, 13 passengers were injured. Local response teams quickly reached the scene, providing medical assistance and transporting the injured to nearby facilities. Authorities noted that difficult road conditions caused by heavy rainfall continue to pose risks for travelers.

Fatality Reported in Adraskan District

In Adraskan district, three individuals were caught in floodwaters. Community members, along with rescue teams, managed to save two of them. However, one person could not be rescued in time and lost their life. Officials emphasized that the incident highlights the dangers posed by rapidly rising المياه levels in vulnerable districts.

Additional Incidents in Torghundi and Gulran

Rescue teams are also working to reach two individuals reportedly trapped near the Torghundi river. Efforts are ongoing to safely evacuate them. Meanwhile, in the Rud Bazaar area of Gulran district, three vehicles were stranded amid strong currents. Coordinated action by local residents and emergency responders ensured that all passengers were safely rescued and no further injuries were reported in that incident.

Widespread Impact of Seasonal Rains

The recent floods are part of a broader pattern of extreme weather affecting Afghanistan over the past several weeks. Officials from the national disaster management authority reported that since late February, at least 28 people have died and 49 others have been injured due to heavy rainfall, flash floods, and lightning strikes across multiple provinces.

The affected regions include Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Ghor, Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Jawzjan, Faryab, Badakhshan, Bamyan, Daikundi, Paktia, Paktika, Logar, Zabul, Balkh, Badghis, Samangan, Sar-e Pol, Baghlan, Takhar, Laghman, and Nangarhar. Authorities say the widespread nature of the damage reflects the severity of this season’s weather conditions.

Damage to Infrastructure and Livelihoods

Floodwaters have caused significant destruction to homes and infrastructure. Reports indicate that at least 568 houses and 10 shops have been destroyed, while approximately 93 kilometers of roads have suffered damage. In addition, around 244 livestock have been lost, affecting rural communities that depend heavily on agriculture and animal husbandry.

More than 1,100 families have been impacted, with many facing displacement and urgent humanitarian needs. Officials are continuing assessments to determine the full extent of the damage.

Relief Measures and Public Advisory

In response, the disaster management authority has begun distributing food supplies, emergency aid, and other essential support to affected families. Relief teams are prioritizing areas with the most severe damage and limited access.

Authorities have also issued safety advisories, urging residents to avoid rivers and low-lying areas prone to flooding. People have been advised to remain alert, particularly as further rainfall could worsen the situation in the coming days.
