EU : connections, the Indo-Pacific region, and the war in Ukraine are discussed in the first India-Weimar format conference
EU: The inaugural India-Weimer format meeting was attended by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Three main topics were discussed during the meeting: the war in Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific region, and ties between India and the European Union.

EAM Jaishankar said at the meeting that the format will strengthen India’s ties with Europe. “It is supported by individual European Union member states, but it is also reflected in a collective endeavor with Brussels,” he said. We naturally have smaller group interactions that support this bigger direction as these discussions progress and collaboration increases, and I believe that is what we are looking for today.”
According to Jaishankar, the conversations were honest and in-depth on a variety of topics.
Jaishankar said that this is the first time India is using this format in his comments at the India-Weimar Meeting. The Indo-Pacific, the Ukraine problem, and India-EU ties were the three main topics of our conversations,” he added.
The globe in flux is the second setting for the discussion, according to Jaishankar. That turmoil in the Indo-Pacific has been something we have been seeing for a number of years. Europe is now facing its own difficult situation, many of which have strategic ramifications. Beyond that, however, there have also been broad advances that have the potential to completely alter the world order. “Even though we are in different parts of the world, it is very helpful for us to share assessments and exchange opinions on a regular basis,” the EAM said.
Jaishankar expressed optimism about the potential to strengthen and advance India-European relations. The relationship between India and the European Union, as well as its member nations, has the greatest potential for growth among its main ties, in my opinion. We have a lot of untapped potential and a lot of fresh territory to explore. It is fitting that we have three very significant European partners in this framework that has united us. I’m certain from our conversations today that they will help forward efforts to strengthen India-European relations,” he added.
He noted that the world is going in a multipolar direction and emphasized that events and elements that make it more volatile and unpredictable also offer a strong argument for stronger cooperation among like-minded parties with similar viewpoints, which is what united the four.
Additionally, he posted the meeting’s specifics on X.
On Wednesday (local time), EAM had earlier in the day met with his French colleague, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. The two presidents exchanged opinions on current world events and spoke about strengthening bilateral cooperation and India-EU collaboration.
According to EAM, the bilateral cooperation session would advance our broad agenda and seek to produce fresh concepts for carrying out the Horizon 2047 Roadmap.
The Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Xavier Bettel, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with the External Affairs Minister earlier. Additionally, he engaged with the Indian Community members in Luxembourg.
According to the MEA, “EAM will also address the 31st edition of the French Ambassadors’ Conference as the Guest of Honour.”
