Ethiopia: PM Modi is the first world leader to get Ethiopia’s highest honor
Ethiopia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Ethiopia’s highest honor, the Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia, on Tuesday. According to him, the honor is due to the many Indians whose faith, dedication, and hard work have molded and enhanced the two countries’ relationship.

The first head of state or head of government in history to earn this honor is Prime Minister Modi. The prize was given out by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
Ethiopia’s highest honor is PM Modi’s 28th top foreign state award.
PM Modi said in his comments that he is very proud of the prize.
“I just received The Great Honor Nishan of Ethiopia, the nation’s highest honor. I am really proud to have been honored by one of the world’s oldest and wealthiest civilizations. I accept this honor with humility on behalf of all Indians. The Prime Minister added, “This award is for all those many Indians who helped to shape our partnership.”
“I would also want to use this opportunity to thank my buddy, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. You had strongly encouraged me to go to Ethiopia when we met at the G20 Summit in South Africa last month. How could I have declined my brother’s, my friend’s, invitation? I thus made the decision to go to Ethiopia as soon as possible,” he said.
PM Modi praises the significance of teaching
PM Modi praised educators’ contributions to improving ties between Ethiopia and India. “This visit may have taken a long time if it had followed the standard diplomatic procedure. But in only twenty-four days, your love and compassion got me here,” he added.
In India, we’ve long held the belief that knowledge liberates. The cornerstone of every nation is education. I am pleased that our instructors have made the biggest contribution to Ethiopia-India ties. They were drawn to Ethiopia by its wonderful culture, and they had the good fortune to prepare many generations here. Several Indian professors are still employed by Ethiopian universities and other higher education establishments today,” he said.
According to the prime minister, collaborations founded on trust and vision will shape the future.
“Together with Ethiopia, we are committed to furthering such partnerships which can bring forth a solution to evolving global challenges and build new opportunities,” he said.

The award was dedicated by the Prime Minister to India’s 140 crore citizens. Receiving the “Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia” is an honor for me. In a post on X, he said, “I dedicate it to the 140 crore people of India.”
According to the BJP, PM Modi’s 28th international award is a testament to India’s growing prominence and his well-respected leadership on the international scene.

India’s growing worldwide prominence and PM Modi’s dependable, well-respected leadership on the international scene are reflected in this 28th foreign honor. As he dedicates this honor to 140 crore Indians, the whole country rejoices,” the party said in a statement on X.
India and Ethiopia upgraded their bilateral relations to a “strategic partnership” on Tuesday, with Prime Minister Modi saying the move would give their relationship new vitality, speed, and depth.
During a meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister Modi said that Ethiopia and India are co-passengers and allies of the Global South and democratic nations dedicated to human welfare and peace.
“We are transforming the relationship between Ethiopia and India into a strategic partnership today. Our relationships will gain new vitality, speed, and depth as a result of our action,” he said.
“Contact, communication, and trade between Ethiopia and India date back thousands of years. The rich linguistic and cultural heritage of our two nations serve as emblems of diversity and harmony. Both nations are democratic superpowers dedicated to world peace and well-being. We are partners and fellow travelers in the Global South. We have stood side to shoulder on global stages. Ethiopia serves as the hub for African diplomacy because to the African Union’s headquarters there. Motivated by the shared goal of an inclusive world, India made sure the African Union joined the G20 in 2023,” he said.
PM Abiy Ahmed Ali said in his speech that Ethiopia’s economy is doing very well.
Tuesday marked PM Modi’s arrival in Ethiopia for a two-day visit. At the airport, he was welcomed with open arms.
