For the first time since November 2019, catastrophic fire risk ratings have been issued for many locations in Victoria. Strong winds and potential dry lightning are predicted to worsen temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius across the state on Friday.

Residents in the catastrophic fire hazard regions should evacuate by 7 a.m. local time on Friday to protect their safety, according to Emergency Management Commissioner Tim Wiebusch, who made this announcement at a news conference on Thursday morning.

The Acting Premier of Victoria, Ben Carroll, advised everyone in the state to heed emergency alerts.”Catastrophic” implies “dreadful.” One of the world’s most vulnerable regions to bushfires is Victoria. We’re talking about unexpected, uncontrolled bushfires tomorrow, with a genuine danger of damage and human casualties,” he said.

People in communities close to two distinct fires that are out of control in central and northeast Victoria were ordered to evacuate by authorities on Thursday morning.

Wiebusch verified that a fire in the town of Longwood, which is 120 kilometers north of Melbourne, had burned two structures.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the VicEmergency service sent alerts on Thursday morning advising residents of Longwood and the other small villages to evacuate right now. The alerts also said that emergency personnel may not be able to assist people who choose to remain.

Over 3,000 hectares of land have been destroyed by a second uncontrolled fire in a state park close to the town of Walwa, which is located 320 km northeast of Melbourne on Victoria’s border with New South Wales. The fire is still threatening neighboring communities, and locals have been ordered to evacuate.
