“Rob Reiner was my friend, and so was Michele,” Martin Scorsese wrote in an editorial that appeared in The New York Times. I will have to utilize the past tense going forward, which makes me quite unhappy. However, there isn’t another option.

According to “Variety,” Martin Scorsese first became acquainted with Rob Reiner soon after relocating to Los Angeles in the early 1970s, when he began attending gatherings with comedians and performers that were hosted by George Memmoli.

Reiner’s parents, entertainers Carl and Estelle Reiner, were members of the entertainment industry’s elite.

Marty said, “In a sense, Rob and I were both transplants from the East. It was in the air I breathed, and it was pure New York comedy. I immediately like spending time with Rob. We were naturally drawn to one another. Although he sometimes had a sharp sense of humor, he was never the kind of person to dominate a conversation.

He had a terrific barreling laugh and a lovely feeling of unrestrained freedom, living life to the fullest. Michael McKean gave a brief address in honor of him at Lincoln Center, which was a clever satire of somber official memorial speeches. He said, “Rob laughed so hard you could hear it throughout the auditorium before he got to the punchline.”

“Misery,” which Scorsese referred to as “a very special film, beautifully acted by Kathy Bates and James Caan,” is his favorite Reiner-directed picture.

“This Is Spinal Tap” is “in a class of its own, an immaculate creation,” he said. Scorsese “immediately thought of Rob” to portray the father of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jordan Belfort, while he was casting his 2013 movie, The Wolf of Wall Street.
