A section of the Bengali film and television fraternity has called for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the untimely death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, who passed away while filming at Talsari beach in Odisha. The incident has raised serious questions about safety protocols during outdoor shoots.

Several prominent voices from the industry have spoken out, urging authorities to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Actors Sudipta Chakraborty and Rupanjana Mitra have been particularly vocal, demanding clarity and accountability.

Rupanjana Mitra took to social media to express her anguish and frustration. She alleged that filming often proceeds without adequate safety measures and stressed that such negligence should not be ignored. Rahul Banerjee, aged 42, was reportedly shooting for the television show ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’ on Sunday when the tragedy occurred. According to initial accounts, he had entered the sea during the shoot just as the tide was rising. It is believed that strong currents pulled him further into the water.

Crew members and technicians present at the location managed to retrieve him from the sea. However, early medical assessments suggest that he succumbed to drowning. He was being transported to a hospital in Digha, located in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, but reportedly passed away before reaching medical care.

Authorities have initiated legal procedures following the incident. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Digha Police Station. Officials confirmed that a post-mortem examination would be conducted at Tamluk hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
