Market Report: Delhi Provides the Largest CNG-Diesel Advantage, Mumbai Leads in CNG-Petrol Savings
Market Report: According to a survey by Antique Stock Broking, CNG still has the best pricing advantage over gasoline in Mumbai, while Delhi offers the biggest savings over diesel.

Despite many CNG price increases in recent months, the research noted that Mumbai still provides the largest arbitrage when compared to gasoline.
According to the research, “CNG continues to offer the highest price advantage over petrol in Mumbai, while for diesel the highest advantage is in Delhi.”
Major cities have noticed a rise in CNG prices since the start of FY26. Delhi’s CNG price now stands at Rs 77.1/kg after IGL (Indraprastha Gas Limited) increased the price twice, on April 7 and May 3, by Rs 1/kg each.
Mumbai CNG rates now stand at Rs 80.5/kg after Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) issued three price increases: Rs 1.5/kg on April 9, Rs 0.5/kg on June 1, and Rs 0.5/kg on September 4.
Even with these pricing adjustments, CNG is still 22.2% less expensive than gasoline and 10.6% less expensive than diesel in Mumbai.
In contrast, the price advantage in Delhi is 12.1% less expensive than diesel and 18.7% less expensive than gasoline. Customers of Gujarat Gas may save 15.1% on CNG rates when compared to gasoline and 11.1% when compared to diesel.
According to the analysis, switching from diesel to CNG in Delhi results in greater cost savings than doing so in Mumbai or Gujarat.
Following the government’s implementation of a 10% GST drop on September 22, 2025, the report also noted a significant annual increase in CNG registrations in November 2025. The demand for CNG vehicles was increased by this tax cut.
But following a notable surge in October brought on by the demand for the holiday season, registrations steadily decreased month after month.
The results demonstrate that despite price increases, CNG is still a desirable fuel choice in large cities due to the cost savings it provides, particularly in Delhi when compared to diesel and in Mumbai when compared to gasoline.
When consumers choose CNG over conventional fuels, this price difference has a significant impact on both vehicle purchasers and operating expenses.
