Exports – India Pushes Marine Product Trade and Global Industry Partnerships
Exports – Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently held discussions with members of the Consultative Committee on Promotion of Export of Marine Products to review strategies aimed at strengthening India’s seafood export sector. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada also attended the meeting, where officials examined ways to enhance the country’s presence in global seafood markets and create new economic opportunities for exporters.

Focus on Expanding Value Addition and Market Competitiveness
During the meeting, participants evaluated several policy measures designed to improve the value of marine product exports from India. Officials highlighted the importance of increasing value addition in seafood processing, which can help Indian exporters compete more effectively in international markets.
Discussions also focused on improving global competitiveness by upgrading infrastructure and ensuring that exporters comply with international quality and safety standards. Strengthening regulatory compliance was considered a key step toward gaining greater acceptance in global markets where strict food safety norms are followed.
According to Goyal, these initiatives are expected to open new international opportunities for India’s seafood industry, allowing exporters to reach a wider range of markets while improving product quality and reliability.
Strengthening Infrastructure and Export Ecosystem
A major part of the meeting centred on building stronger infrastructure for the marine export sector. Officials examined how logistics, cold chain systems, port facilities and processing units can be improved to support the growing demand for Indian seafood products overseas.
Experts present at the discussion noted that improved infrastructure will not only reduce transportation losses but also ensure that seafood products maintain quality during export. The government believes that investments in infrastructure can significantly strengthen the overall export ecosystem and help Indian producers meet global demand more efficiently.
Authorities also discussed improving traceability and compliance systems, which are increasingly important for international buyers. Such systems allow importing countries to track seafood products through the supply chain and confirm that they meet regulatory standards.
Meetings with Global Industry Leaders
Apart from the consultation on marine exports, Goyal also participated in several high-level meetings with international industry leaders and business delegations. These interactions were aimed at strengthening India’s manufacturing capabilities and expanding collaboration with global companies.
The discussions largely focused on improving investment partnerships and strengthening India’s role within international supply chains. Government officials believe that stronger global collaboration will help India expand its manufacturing base while creating more opportunities for domestic industries.
Many of the conversations also explored ways to position India as a major manufacturing and supply hub in the Indo-Pacific region, an area that has seen increasing economic and strategic attention in recent years.
Engagement with Aerospace Industry
In one significant meeting, Goyal met Greg Ulmer, President of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, along with a delegation from the aerospace company. The discussion explored possibilities for deeper industrial collaboration between Indian manufacturers and the global aerospace sector.
Both sides examined opportunities to strengthen manufacturing partnerships and support the expansion of India’s aviation ecosystem, which has been growing steadily over the past decade. The talks also included discussions on technology collaboration and potential investment opportunities that could support India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
Industry observers note that such partnerships could play an important role in boosting India’s domestic manufacturing sector while increasing its participation in global aerospace supply chains.
India’s Ambition to Lead Agro and Marine Exports
Earlier this month, while addressing the 40th AAHAR International Fair, Goyal highlighted India’s growing presence in the global market for agricultural and marine products. He stated that the country currently ranks among the world’s leading exporters in this category and aims to further strengthen its position in the coming years.
According to the minister, India is currently the seventh largest exporter of agricultural and marine products globally. He expressed confidence that continued innovation, improved quality standards and stronger international partnerships will help the country move toward becoming a leading exporter in these sectors.
Government officials also pointed to India’s expanding network of trade agreements as a major factor supporting this growth. These agreements are expected to provide improved market access and facilitate smoother trade for Indian exporters.
