Union Budget – The Union Budget for 2026–27 has been described as forward-looking and strategically aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of building a developed India by 2047, according to Janata Dal (United) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad. He said the budget reflects a clear roadmap focused on sustained growth, stronger infrastructure, and broad-based economic inclusion.

Budget Focuses on Long-Term National Growth
Speaking to the media, Prasad stated that the latest budget is designed to strengthen the country’s economic base over the long term. He noted that the proposals highlight the government’s continued emphasis on balanced development, fiscal discipline, and investment-driven growth. According to him, the budget demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that economic progress reaches a wide range of sectors and communities.
He added that several policy measures introduced over the past decade have helped stabilise the economy and improve India’s global standing. These steps, he said, have laid the groundwork for consistent growth and have moved the country closer to the broader objective of becoming a developed nation.
Inclusive Approach and Sector-Wide Benefits
Prasad said the provisions announced in the budget are expected to support expansion across critical sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and services. He emphasised that the government has prioritised inclusive development, aiming to ensure that the benefits of growth are distributed across different sections of society.
He described the budget as an important milestone in the journey toward a developed India, adding that it balances immediate economic needs with long-term national goals. According to him, the focus on stability and investment will help maintain momentum even in a challenging global environment.
Bihar to Gain from Rail and Infrastructure Projects
Turning to Bihar, the JD(U) spokesperson said the state has consistently benefited from key policy decisions taken during Prime Minister Modi’s tenure. He pointed out that infrastructure development has remained a central focus in successive budgets, with Bihar receiving attention in major connectivity projects.
Prasad highlighted the proposed Varanasi–Siliguri high-speed rail corridor, noting that a significant portion of the route passes through Bihar. He said this project is expected to enhance rail infrastructure in the state and improve connectivity, which could support economic activity and mobility across the region.
Fisheries Sector Receives Continued Attention
He also drew attention to the fisheries sector, stating that Bihar has shown steady performance in this area. According to Prasad, the Union Budget has placed special emphasis on fisheries, recognising its potential to generate employment and support rural livelihoods.
He said targeted support for the sector could help strengthen local economies and contribute to overall agricultural growth. The continued focus, he added, reflects the Centre’s intent to support states that are showing positive results in sector-specific development.
India’s Economic Performance Amid Global Challenges
Commenting on the broader economic outlook, Prasad said India has maintained a strong growth trajectory despite global uncertainty and adverse international conditions. He noted that the country has recorded a growth rate of 6.8 per cent, outperforming several major economies.
He further stated that with projected growth of 7.4 per cent, India is progressing at a pace significantly faster than many global peers. In his view, this performance indicates that current economic policies are delivering results, and criticism from opposition parties does not reflect the underlying data.
Remarks on International Cricket Dispute
Prasad also reacted to reports that Pakistan may refuse to play a T20 World Cup match against India. He described the reported stance of the Pakistan Cricket Board as unclear and unacceptable, pointing out inconsistencies in Pakistan’s participation in international tournaments.
He urged the International Cricket Council to take decisive steps, stating that uniform standards must be applied to all member nations. According to him, clear action from the ICC is necessary to address the issue and uphold the integrity of international cricket.
