Politics – Pappu Yadav Hospitalised After Arrest in 1995 Case
Politics – A day after being taken into custody in a decades-old case, Purnea Member of Parliament Rajesh Ranjan, widely known as Pappu Yadav, was admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital after reporting health concerns.

Arrest Sparks Tension at Patna Residence
Late Friday night, Bihar Police arrested the independent MP in connection with a 1995 case linked to alleged forgery and property misuse. The arrest followed a court directive and led to tense moments outside his Mandiri residence in Patna.
Police teams arrived to carry out the judicial order, but the situation escalated when a large number of supporters gathered outside the premises. A brief confrontation occurred between the crowd and law enforcement personnel before authorities secured control of the scene.
Court Order and Background of the Case
According to officials, the MP-MLA Special Court had recently ordered the attachment of property belonging to three accused individuals — Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, Shailendra Prasad, and Chandra Narayan Prasad. The directive came after repeated non-appearance before the court despite earlier summons and warrants.
The order was issued by Special Judge Praveen Kumar Malviya. Court records indicate that proclamations and arrest warrants had previously been served, but the accused failed to appear, prompting stricter legal action.
The case traces back to 1995. As per the complaint, Shailendra Prasad allegedly rented a house owned by Vinod Bihari Lal. The property was reportedly presented as an official office of a Member of Parliament without proper authorization. Following the allegations, FIR No. 552/1995 was registered at Gardanibagh police station.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for Saturday.
Allegations of Police Excess by the MP
During the arrest process, Pappu Yadav accused the police of overstepping their authority. Speaking to reporters, he claimed that he had just returned to Patna after attending a Lok Sabha session when a person in civilian attire entered his residence, identifying himself as Inspector Deepak Kumar.
Yadav stated that although he was informed about a warrant, no official document was shown to him at that time. He said he sought time to consult his legal counsel but alleged that police personnel forcibly entered his home and detained him.
He described the action as politically motivated and claimed he was being targeted for raising his voice on sensitive matters, including the recent death of a NEET aspirant. The MP further expressed concerns about his personal safety and appealed to key constitutional authorities for intervention.
He urged the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to look into the matter. He also requested that he be placed under house arrest and assured that he would cooperate with court proceedings.
Police Maintain Action Was Court-Directed
Law enforcement officials, however, rejected allegations of misconduct. A senior officer present at the scene stated that the police were executing a valid court order regarding property attachment and were bound to act in accordance with legal directives.
Authorities maintained that all actions were taken strictly within the framework of the law and under judicial supervision. After several hours of tension, officials completed the required formalities and removed the MP from his residence.
The incident has once again drawn attention to an old legal case that had remained pending for nearly three decades. With the next court hearing approaching, further developments are expected in the coming days.
