Patna: Demand for CBI Probe Intensifies After Suspicious Death of NEET Aspirant
Patna: The mysterious death of a young NEET aspirant in Patna has sparked widespread concern, political reactions, and public outrage across Bihar. The incident, which occurred at a women’s hostel in the state capital, has raised serious questions about student safety, institutional accountability, and the credibility of the investigation being conducted by local authorities.

Allegations Raised by Pappu Yadav
Pappu Yadav, the Member of Parliament from Purnea, has openly challenged the official narrative surrounding the case. After visiting the hostel and interacting with students and nearby residents, he stated that the incident should not be treated as a suicide. According to him, several inconsistencies point towards a possible murder.
He claimed that the hostel where the student was staying lacked proper registration and oversight. He also questioned how such a serious incident could take place in a facility meant to provide a safe environment for young female students preparing for competitive examinations.
Questions on Medical and Police Procedure
One of the key concerns highlighted relates to the post-mortem and medical investigation process. Yadav questioned why the initial medical findings from Patna Medical College and Hospital were allegedly overlooked and why the case was later referred to AIIMS. He suggested that this shift raised suspicion and hinted at a possible attempt to influence or delay the investigation.
He further demanded clarity on reports of two unidentified individuals being present inside the hostel premises. According to him, these details contradict the suicide theory and require a deeper, independent inquiry.
Call for Accountability and Arrests
Yadav strongly criticized the police for not arresting the hostel in-charge immediately after the incident. He argued that custodial questioning was essential to uncover the truth and ensure justice. Emphasizing the larger issue of women’s safety, he warned that such incidents would continue if negligence and mismanagement at hostels were ignored.
He also drew parallels with previous high-profile cases in Bihar that, according to him, were mishandled or suppressed. In this context, he appealed directly to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take firm steps to protect girl students and restore public confidence.
Move to Approach the High Court
Declaring his next course of action, Pappu Yadav announced his intention to approach the High Court to seek a Central Bureau of Investigation probe. He stated that only an independent central agency could ensure a fair and transparent investigation, free from local pressure or political influence.
Intervention by the Bihar State Women’s Commission
The matter has also drawn the attention of the Bihar State Women’s Commission, which has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident. The Commission emphasized the seriousness of the case and assured that it would closely monitor every development.
Visit and Official Communication
The Commission’s Chairperson, Professor Apsara, announced a visit to Jehanabad to meet the victim’s family and assess the situation firsthand. She has formally written to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna, seeking immediate action against those responsible and requesting a detailed investigation report.
According to her statement, the Commission is committed to ensuring that no guilty individual escapes accountability and that justice is delivered without delay.
Arrest and Formation of SIT
Following pressure from political leaders, civil society, and the Women’s Commission, authorities arrested the hostel operator. Additionally, a Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe the case comprehensively. This development has been seen as a step forward, though many continue to demand a central-level investigation.
Background of the Deceased Student
The deceased student hailed from Jehanabad district and had moved to Patna to prepare for the highly competitive NEET examination. Like thousands of aspirants, she was living away from home in pursuit of a medical career. Her death has triggered anxiety among students and parents across the state regarding the safety of coaching hubs and hostels.
Political Protests and Public Anger
The incident has also taken a political turn, with the Indian National Congress organizing protests against the Bihar government. Party leaders and workers gathered at Income Tax Chowk in Patna, accusing the administration and police of negligence and failure to ensure student safety.
The protest was led by Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru and State Congress President Rajesh Ram. Demonstrators raised slogans and burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister, reflecting growing public anger and mistrust.
Growing Demand for Justice
As investigations continue, the case has become a symbol of broader concerns around women’s safety, hostel regulation, and accountability in educational cities like Patna. Students, parents, and social organizations are demanding strict action, systemic reforms, and transparent governance to prevent such tragedies in the future.
