CrimeNews – Delhi Police Arrest Suspect in Boxer Vikas Dagar Murder Case
CrimeNews – Delhi Police has arrested a key suspect accused of being involved in the murder of national-level boxer Vikas Dagar, nearly eight months after the incident shocked outer Delhi. The accused, identified as 38-year-old Sumit Rana alias Chhotu, was taken into custody from the Adarsh Nagar area following a sustained search operation by the Crime Branch.

Arrest Made After Months of Investigation
According to police officials, Rana had been absconding since July 2025 in connection with the killing of boxer Vikas Dagar, also known as Bhinda. Authorities stated that he was linked to the Sonu gang, commonly referred to as the “Thekedar gang,” which has reportedly been active in criminal activities in parts of Delhi.
The case was originally registered at Baba Haridas Nagar police station after the fatal shooting of the boxer on July 29, 2025. Investigators alleged that the attack was the result of a long-standing personal rivalry and had been carefully planned in advance.
Boxer Was Shot Dead in Najafgarh Area
Police said Vikas Dagar, a resident of Nangli Sakrawati in Najafgarh and a recognized national-level boxing champion, was attacked by armed men in the Baba Haridas Nagar locality. Officials claimed that multiple individuals participated in the conspiracy and execution of the crime.
Investigators named four accused in the case, including alleged gang leader Vikas Dahiya alias Sonu Thekedar, along with Akash Gahlot, Krishan, and Sumit Rana. Police alleged that Sonu Thekedar fired at the boxer during the attack, causing fatal injuries. Dagar reportedly died at the scene before medical help could arrive.
Following the incident, all suspects fled from the area to avoid arrest.
Earlier Arrests and Search Operations
During the early stages of the investigation, Delhi Police managed to arrest one accused, Akash Gahlot, while the remaining suspects continued to evade authorities. A Delhi court later declared the absconding accused proclaimed offenders in October 2025.
In April this year, the Crime Branch arrested alleged gang leader Sonu Thekedar from Chandigarh after tracking his movements for several months. Police later received intelligence inputs suggesting that Sumit Rana was hiding in Zirakpur, Punjab. However, officials said he managed to escape shortly before a raid was conducted there.
Authorities eventually located Rana in Adarsh Nagar after receiving fresh information regarding his whereabouts. He was arrested during a targeted operation carried out by the Crime Branch.
Accused Allegedly Changed Locations Frequently
During questioning, Rana allegedly admitted that he had remained on the run by constantly shifting between different cities and states with assistance from associates. Police claimed he frequently changed hideouts to avoid being traced by investigators.
Officials also revealed details about Rana’s educational and professional background. According to investigators, he holds a diploma in hotel management and had spent several years studying and working in Malaysia between 2016 and 2021. Afterward, he reportedly moved to Dubai, where he started a trading-related business venture.
Police stated that Rana returned to Delhi in July 2025 and allegedly joined his cousin Sonu Thekedar in efforts to expand criminal influence in the region. Investigators suspect the group was involved in intimidation and extortion activities targeting local businessmen in outer Delhi areas.
