Security – The United States has urged Iraq’s leadership to take decisive measures against Iran-backed armed groups operating inside the country, stressing that Washington expects visible steps instead of political assurances. Senior American officials said recent discussions with Iraqi authorities focused heavily on limiting the influence of militias that the US considers a major threat to regional stability.
According to a senior US State Department official, Iraqi leaders, including the country’s prime minister-designate, are fully aware of Washington’s expectations. The official stated that the US administration is looking for practical measures rather than public promises as concerns grow over attacks targeting American facilities across Iraq and the wider region.
Washington Raises Concerns Over Militia Influence
American officials have repeatedly expressed concern about the growing power of Iran-aligned militias inside Iraq’s political and security institutions. The latest remarks indicate that the issue remains one of the most sensitive points in relations between Baghdad and Washington.
