Crime – Delhi Police Arrest Two Gang Members After Encounter in Outer Delhi
Crime – Delhi Police have apprehended two suspected associates of the Himanshu Bhau gang following a late-night exchange of fire in outer Delhi, officials confirmed on Monday. The operation led to the dismantling of an alleged illegal arms supply chain, with officers recovering firearms, ammunition and a vehicle believed to have been used by the accused.

Late-Night Interception Under UER-II Flyover
According to police sources, the arrests took place during the intervening night of January 22 and 23 beneath the UER-II flyover. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team set up a checkpoint in the area after receiving information about the movement of suspected gang members.
When officers signaled a car to stop for inspection, the occupants allegedly attempted to flee. Police said the suspects opened fire in an effort to escape. During the brief exchange, a bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of a head constable. The protective gear prevented serious injury, and the officer remained safe.
Accused Identified, Reward on One Suspect
The two men taken into custody have been identified as Vicky, also known as Mogli, and Chander Bhan. Investigators say both have a criminal history and are believed to have been involved in serious offenses, including murder, attempted murder and extortion.
Vicky was reportedly carrying a cash reward of Rs 5,000 announced by Haryana Police in connection with previous cases. Law enforcement officials had been tracking his movements for some time before the latest operation.
Recovery of Firearms and Ammunition
Police officials stated that during the encounter, officers responded to the gunfire in self-defense. Vicky sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was immediately taken into custody. He was later provided medical treatment under police supervision.
From the scene, authorities recovered two pistols, 18 live cartridges and the vehicle used by the suspects. The seizure, police said, is part of a broader effort to curb the circulation of illegal weapons in the region.
Investigators believe the arrested men were linked to a network engaged in supplying firearms to criminal groups operating in Delhi and neighboring states. The arms seizure is expected to assist authorities in tracing the source and distribution channels of the weapons.
Further Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Following the initial arrests, police teams carried out additional raids, leading to the detention of three more individuals suspected of being connected to the same network. Officials have not yet disclosed detailed information about these arrests but indicated that interrogations are underway.
A senior officer said that investigators are working to identify other members of the gang and to map out the full extent of its activities. Efforts are also being made to determine whether the group has links with other organized crime syndicates active in the National Capital Region.
Police emphasized that the operation was conducted based on credible intelligence and in accordance with standard procedure. Security measures in sensitive areas of outer Delhi have since been reinforced as part of ongoing surveillance and crime prevention efforts.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on organized crime and illegal arms trafficking. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and additional details emerge from questioning of the accused.
