Tragedy in Bhubaneswar: At Rupali Square in Bhubaneswar, a bus struck an autorickshaw from behind, killing the 62-year-old driver and injuring two passengers. The incident sparked demonstrations at the scene. Now, dashcam video purportedly taken from the bus has gone popular online.

The autorickshaw is observed at a signal behind another bus in the footage. One of the Ama Buses struck the car from behind in a matter of seconds. When the two cars in front were stopped at the busy intersection, the event happened. The event happened on January 3.

The event startled the passengers on the bus in front of the autorickshaw, who were observed staring at the vehicle through the back glass.

“In a matter of seconds, one careless motorist may ruin several families and take the lives of innocent people. One individual shared the video of the event on X and said, “This is the dashcam footage from the bus that crushed an auto between two buses at Rupali Square, Bhubaneswar.”

According to the police, the Ama Bus struck the autorickshaw from behind at the right-hand light stop. According to The New Indian Express, the car collided with the school bus in front of it.

Vishnu Patro of Binjharpur has been identified as the autorickshaw driver.

The names of Namita Pradhan and Ramani Nayak were among those hurt in the collision. Police rescued the passengers, who were then taken to a local hospital. After getting first assistance, Nayak was released from the hospital with minor injuries. The second traveler had a brain injury in addition to a hand fracture.

Biswaranjan Senapati of Zone V ACP reported that the electric Ama Bus was on route to Baramunda.

After protesting, the driver is arrested.

The bus driver, Suchitra Kumar Sahoo, was taken into custody after the event, and a complaint has been filed against him in accordance with the applicable laws.

Following the tragedy, a number of people began to demonstrate in the neighborhood, and some even vandalized the bus that was involved in the collision, according to The New Indian Express. In addition, a few more Ama Buses nearby were vandalized by the demonstrators.

Soon after, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena hurried to the scene to calm the demonstrators. After over 30 minutes, traffic flow returned to normal, and the damaged buses were eventually taken off the busy route.

The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) said in a statement that JBM Eco Life Private Limited, the bus operator, would have to pay Rs 2 lakh to the deceased’s family and Rs 50,000 to the wounded.

It also said, “Officials are also in contact with the relevant government departments to facilitate compensation to the deceased’s kin.”

One eyewitness questioned, “Why wasn’t the bus applying the brakes when the vehicles in front are still?”

“Very very unfortunate and sad,” said another. Our nation neither enacts new laws nor vigorously enforces those that already exist.

“Probably he was drunk or on his phone watching reels,” a third individual said.

The issue is now being looked into further.
