Videos of the heist quickly went viral on social media when locals awoke on Thursday. The whole criminal sequence was documented on CCTV video that was recovered from the temple grounds, exposing the obvious security flaws.

The Entry: Two guys are seen in the video waiting in a passage before scaling the walls with a ladder to enter the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum).

The Act: One of the robbers was barefoot, while the other was wearing shoes. To get to the goods, they are seen smashing into lockers and slashing locks.

The Escape: The robbers left the area after obtaining the valuables and gold crown. In one video, a robber is seen leaving while carrying the large contribution box on his head. His accomplice trailed closely after, clutching something that looked like a plastic bottle and carrying a sack thrown over his back. Cloth was placed over both suspects’ faces to hide their identities.

Police Reaction and Internal Investigation Gopalganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Avdhesh Dixit declared the creation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to solve the matter after confirming the theft.

Official Statement: “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to look into the incident after a case has been filed. The offender will soon be apprehended,” SP Dixit told PTI.

Security Failure: Although there was a police post at the temple, the theft still took place, and the SP recognized the seriousness of the security lapse. “The fact that the event occurred despite the presence of a police station at the shrine raises concerns. The actions of the police officers will also be investigated,” he said.

punishment Promised: Dixit promised that if any police officers stationed there were proven to have neglected their duties, severe punishment would be taken.
