The auspicious bath on Paush Purnima marked the start of the 44-day Magh Mela on January 3 at the Sangam in Prayagraj.

IANS met with a number of devotees who conveyed their gratitude for the administration’s efforts and their zeal for spirituality.

“We have come here from Hyderabad,” said a devotee from Hyderabad. We came to take a holy bath during the Magh Mela after previously visiting the Mahakumbh. Tonight, we shall visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple with the blessings of Saraswati, Yamuna, and Ganga after the holy bath. We want to visit the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya tomorrow for darshan before heading back to Hyderabad. The preparations made by the Yogi administration are excellent.

“The Magh Mela has a distinct charm of its own, and we truly enjoy coming here,” said another devotee, highlighting the event’s distinctive spiritual environment. “The administration had made good arrangements last time as well, and they have done the same this year, too.”

A third devotee praised the logistical preparation and crowd control, saying, “The government has controlled the throng quite successfully. The automobile and traffic arrangements are excellent. I want to reassure and entice folks to come. Everything is well organized, and there is no inconvenience here.”

To guarantee pilgrims’ safety and convenience, extensive security measures have been implemented across the Mela region.

With the Mela area split into seven areas and spanning over 800 hectares, the administration has undertaken enormous preparations.

In order to handle the high volume of automobiles, parking facilities have been set up at 42 specific places.

With 17 police stations, 42 police outposts, and a special police control center, the whole Mela region is protected. To further monitor operations, over 400 CCTV cameras have been added.

According to Prayagraj District Magistrate Manish Verma, authorities are keeping a close eye on everything to make sure the event runs well.

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has deployed over 3,800 buses to make transit easier.

The holy bath on Mahashivratri will mark the end of the Magh Mela, which will include six significant bathing days.

According to Jaiveer Singh, the Minister of Culture and Tourism for Uttar Pradesh, the Magh Mela is a live manifestation of Indian culture and values rather than only a religious event.

Makar Sankranti on January 14, Mauni Amavasya on January 18, Basant Panchami on January 23, Maghi Purnima on February 1, and Mahashivratri on February 15 are this year’s significant bathing dates.
