After only participating in one Test match in the Ashes, Cummins will get a scan at the end of January 2026 to evaluate his back. Hazlewood, meanwhile, is still recuperating from hamstring and Achilles ailments that kept him out of the whole Ashes series. However, Australia will be fervently hoping that Tim David recovers in time for the tournament after suffering an injury during the Big Bash League.

Ben Dwarshuis, a left-arm seamer, has been excluded despite his impressive efforts against South Africa and the West Indies last year. However, missing the India and New Zealand series due to injury likely hurt his prospects. Notably, Cooper Connolly was added to the team in order to increase the resources available for spin bowling. However, if Cummins or Hazlewood are disqualified, Dwarshuis may be the first candidate chosen.Due to the T20 team’s recent success, the panel was able to choose a balance of players for the range of circumstances that Sri Lanka and India may bring. We are certain that Tim David, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood will be available for the World Cup since they are all doing well. Since this is a preliminary squad, any necessary adjustments will be made before the support period, according to national selector George Bailey.

Australia decides not to acquire a Josh Inglis backup.

Additionally, Australia’s World Cup team only has one specialist wicketkeeper, Josh Inglis. Two wicketkeepers, Josh Philippe and Alex Carey, were not given enough credit. In the event of a last-minute injury issue, Glenn Maxwell is probably going to step in.

Mitchell Marsh (captain), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa make up Australia’s 2026 T20 World Cup team.
