Football – AIFF Earns AFC Triple-A Certification for Technical Excellence
Football – The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has received a major boost after being awarded the prestigious Triple-A Certificate by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The recognition was announced following the AFC Technical Summit held on March 19, highlighting India’s progress in building a robust and well-organised technical structure for football development.

Recognition Under AFC’s Structured Evaluation System
The Triple-A certification is part of AFC’s broader framework focused on Analysis, Advice, and Accreditation. This system is designed to assess how effectively member associations manage and implement their technical programmes. It involves detailed reviews of coaching systems, grassroots initiatives, and long-term development strategies.
India was one of 12 AFC member associations shortlisted for this rigorous evaluation process. The selection itself reflects growing confidence in the country’s football ecosystem and its administrative improvements in recent years.
Alignment with International Coaching Standards
A key outcome of this initiative is AFC’s continued collaboration with UEFA. Through this partnership, coaching education pathways are being aligned globally. As a result, AFC coaching licenses will now be recognised by UEFA member nations, opening new opportunities for Indian coaches to gain international exposure and credibility.
This development is expected to significantly enhance the quality of coaching across different levels of the sport in India.
AIFF Highlights Progress Across Multiple Areas
During the Technical Summit, AIFF presented a comprehensive overview of its work across several critical areas. These included coach education, grassroots development, youth programmes, women’s football, national team preparation, domestic competitions, and futsal initiatives.
The presentation was carefully reviewed by the AFC’s technical panel, led by Technical Director Andy Roxburgh. Following this evaluation, the federation was awarded the Triple-A Certificate, confirming that its systems meet AFC’s established standards.
Leadership Reacts to Milestone Achievement
AIFF Head of Coach Education Vivek Nagul described the recognition as a significant moment for Indian football. He noted that the certification reflects the collective efforts of everyone involved in developing the sport across the country.
According to Nagul, the achievement not only validates the work done so far but also strengthens the federation’s resolve to continue improving football structures nationwide. He also acknowledged the contributions of both on-ground staff and support teams who have played a crucial role in reaching this milestone.
Detailed Review and Future Roadmap
As part of the accreditation process, AFC conducted a thorough examination of AIFF’s technical setup. This included evaluating its organisational framework, implementation strategies, and long-term development plans.
The certification confirms that AIFF’s approach aligns with AFC guidelines and international best practices. It also sets a benchmark for further improvements in the coming years.
Continued Collaboration and Development Support
The Triple-A initiative is not limited to certification alone. It also promotes ongoing collaboration between AFC and its member associations. This includes regular technical exchanges, programme assessments, expert consultations, and follow-up action plans.
Such engagement ensures that federations like AIFF continue to evolve and adapt to modern football standards while maintaining consistency in development efforts.
The recognition marks an important step forward for Indian football, reinforcing its commitment to structured growth and international integration.
