Cricket – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed Indian cricketers Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube at his official residence in Mumbai on Tuesday, recognising their contribution to India’s victorious campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The two players were part of the Indian squad that successfully defended the global title and brought the trophy home once again.

Felicitation at the Chief Minister’s Residence
During the meeting, the Chief Minister congratulated both players and praised their role in the team’s remarkable performance throughout the tournament. Suryakumar Yadav, who led the Indian side during the competition, attended the ceremony along with all-rounder Shivam Dube.
Fadnavis acknowledged the efforts of the entire team and said that the victory had brought immense pride to the country. The Chief Minister also appreciated the dedication and hard work shown by the players during the tournament, highlighting how their performances inspired cricket fans across India.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Performance in the Tournament
Suryakumar Yadav played a significant role with the bat during the World Cup. The right-handed batter finished as India’s third-highest run scorer in the tournament.
Across nine matches, he scored a total of 242 runs at an average of 30.25. His campaign included one half-century and several crucial innings that helped India maintain momentum during the competition. As captain, Suryakumar also led the side effectively, guiding the team through key moments on their path to the title.
Shivam Dube’s Impactful All-Round Contribution
Shivam Dube also made valuable contributions with the bat. The left-handed batter ended the tournament as the fourth-highest run scorer for India.
Dube accumulated 235 runs from nine matches and eight innings. Known for his aggressive batting style, he maintained an impressive strike rate of 169.06 during the tournament. His performances included one half-century and several impactful knocks that strengthened India’s middle order.
India’s Historic Title Defence
India sealed the T20 World Cup title after a dominant victory against New Zealand in the final held on Sunday. The Men in Blue secured the championship with a convincing 96-run win, successfully defending the title they had previously won in 2024.
The triumph created several milestones for Indian cricket. India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil. The victory also marked the first time a team successfully defended the title in consecutive editions.
With the 2026 triumph, India now holds three T20 World Cup titles, having previously won the inaugural tournament in 2007 and then again in 2024.
BCCI Announces Major Cash Reward
Following the historic victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a significant financial reward for the team. On March 10, the board confirmed a cash prize of Rs 131 crore for the players, coaching staff, and selection committee.
In an official statement, the BCCI said the reward was announced to recognise the exceptional achievement of the Indian team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The board also congratulated the players, support staff and selectors for their dedication and teamwork throughout the tournament. It expressed hope that the team would continue to deliver strong performances in international cricket in the years ahead.
The victory and subsequent celebrations across the country underline the growing legacy of India’s dominance in the shortest format of the game, as the team continues to build on its success on the global stage.
