Convention Highlights Focus on Women’s Progress

The convention, organised in connection with International Women’s Day, brought together women leaders, professionals and thinkers from different parts of the country. The event focused on discussions around leadership, empowerment and expanding opportunities for women across sectors.

During her address, Gupta said that International Women’s Day serves as a moment to recognise the achievements and contributions of women in society. She noted that women across India are steadily moving forward by setting their own goals and striving to build stronger futures for themselves and their families.

She said that the day should not only be about celebration but also about acknowledging the consistent efforts women make in their personal and professional lives.

Acknowledging the Everyday Sacrifices of Mothers

While speaking about the role of women in families, the Chief Minister reflected on the sacrifices many mothers make in their daily lives. She pointed out that mothers often prioritise the needs of their children and families before their own.

Gupta observed that in many households, mothers ensure that everyone else in the family is fed and cared for before considering their own needs. According to her, this sense of responsibility and dedication reflects the strength and resilience of women.

She said such everyday examples highlight the central role women play in maintaining the wellbeing and stability of families.

Encouraging Women to Aim for Leadership Roles

Gupta also encouraged women to step forward and pursue careers and leadership positions in different sectors. She said women have demonstrated the ability to succeed in diverse fields, including the armed forces, politics, business, education and administration.

Referring to women serving in senior roles across professions, she said the country has many examples of women achieving success and breaking barriers. According to her, every woman should feel confident in aiming for professional growth and making meaningful contributions in her chosen field.

She expressed hope that more women will continue to enter positions of leadership and influence in the coming years.

Message to Mothers on Supporting the Next Generation

Addressing mothers directly, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of creating better opportunities for the next generation of girls. She urged parents to ensure that their daughters receive the education, resources and freedom needed to pursue their ambitions.

Gupta said that if women of earlier generations faced limitations in accessing opportunities, the current generation has the responsibility to ensure those barriers do not continue. She encouraged families to support daughters in making their own decisions and building independent futures.

According to her, giving girls the confidence to explore their potential will help them succeed in various professional and social spheres.

Government Initiatives Supporting Women’s Empowerment

The Chief Minister also spoke about several initiatives aimed at supporting women’s empowerment in recent years. She mentioned programmes such as expanding access to bank accounts, providing financial assistance through Mudra loans and enabling property ownership in women’s names.

She further referred to steps like the implementation of political reservations for women and broader efforts to increase participation of women in public life. According to Gupta, such initiatives have helped open new opportunities for women across the country.

Removing Barriers for Working Women

Gupta also highlighted the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for women in the workplace. She shared that while reviewing certain business regulations, she came across a rule that restricted women from working during night hours.

Describing the rule as outdated, she said it did not reflect the realities of modern workplaces where women are contributing across sectors. She added that the regulation was removed to ensure that women who wish to work night shifts can do so without unnecessary restrictions.

According to her, policy decisions should focus on expanding opportunities while ensuring safety and equal access to employment.

Platform for Dialogue and Collaboration

The “Bharati – Nari to Narayani” convention provided a platform for women leaders, professionals and scholars to share experiences and ideas related to empowerment and leadership. Participants discussed ways to strengthen women’s participation in social, economic and political spheres.

The event concluded with a broader call for continued collaboration among institutions, policymakers and communities to support the advancement of women across the country.
