Weather Update: As chillai kalan starts in Kashmir, the IMD warns of a temperature dip as a cold wave sweeps throughout northern India
Weather Update: The cold wave conditions in North India have become worse due to the arrival of Chillai Kalan, which has brought more snow and rain to Jammu and Kashmir. Air and rail operations have been severely disrupted, and motorists in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar have been forced to crawl on highways due to reduced visibility brought on by heavy fog.
This is in response to a warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) about cold wave conditions, a precipitous decrease in temperature, and heavy fog in the early morning and evening.
Weather Update for North India
Following a two-day respite, the Meteorological Department predicts that a cold wave engulfing North India will worsen. The minimum temperatures may increase somewhat over the next 48 hours before falling by three to five degrees Celsius over the next four days.
According to Jagran.com, thick to very dense fog is also predicted during the night and early morning, exacerbating the cold across a number of states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
Delhi Weather Report
As a cold wave and thick fog continue to worsen over the National Capital Region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow advisory for the nation’s capital. The national capital had temperatures as low as 9.4 degrees Celsius (1.3 degrees above normal) and as high as 18.1 degrees Celsius, according to the meteorological service.
Over 100 flights have been canceled and hundreds more have been delayed at Delhi Airport as a result of the early morning’s thick to extremely dense fog. The country’s capital and surrounding areas are predicted to experience severe cold as the temperature continues to decline.
Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir
A lengthy dry spell has been broken by snowfall and continuous rain in Kashmir, marking the start of the 40-day Chillai-Kalan season, the worst winter. While Srinagar and the valley plains saw rain that lasted from early morning till late evening, heavy snow has covered Sonamarg, Gulmarg, and other high-altitude Himalayan ranges, as well as various areas of the valley.
Mughal Road, which connects the districts of Rajouri, Poonch, and Shopian, has been blocked as a precaution. While overnight temperatures have somewhat increased, midday temperatures have dropped precipitously due to the cloudy circumstances.
The highest parts of Lahaul, including the Himachal Pradesh highlands of Rohtang, Shinkula, Baralacha, and Dhauladhar, have seen snowfall. There was light to moderate rain in Chamba, Bharmour, and Churah. According to Jagran.com
